CHAPPIE (2015)
"
Indestructible Robot Gangster No.1, Son!"
When
Chappie begins, its chaos, destruction, a sense of urgency, gangsters getting their asses whooped by bad-ass robots; much like
District 9 (2009) or
Elysium (2013); but the similarities end there. I could say that it feels like a Robotic version of Aliens from District 9. So in a way, you could say that I didn't fancy the same concept being repeated. Though i did love the way
Chappie made me laugh.
Its difficult to explain, but i can understand the difficulty in making this movie. Robotic Bodies were extremely impressive, and their movements, however they have done it, were just too good. But behind the idea, it felt dumb. Or maybe kept dumb intentionally, for light entertainment. '
Conscious.DAT', '
Transferring Consciousness', WUT ... ? Yeah, it felt a joke to me, and didn't feel believable even a bit.
So it basically comes down to the '
titanium baby',
Chappie, '
acting retarded', '
learning gangsta', '
feeling fears', '
wearing bling', '
jacking cars' while acting innocent; yea, he was hilarious ... and annoying everytime he said '
mommy' and '
daddy'. Cool robot, though. '
Jissis its high' -_- '
Mommy & Daddy's' weird accents were making me laugh even more.
Hugh Jackman as a baddie was refreshing. Job well done, because he really made us hate him, lol.
Chappie was basically the same experience for me as
Elysium, except a little more enjoyable. Its not as Classy or well designed (environment wise) as Elysium, but does keep the feel of 'advanced tech world' with a beautiful simplicity; which i respect. Action scenes are a minority in this one, but well done; hats off to the, as expected, wonderful cinematography (minus the slow motion stuff). I don't feel highly of
Chappie, because of mega hype behind it, but its a very good entertainment, and a likeable concept.
7/10 Oh, and it has a Happy ending, which i happen to adore.
