It's that time again, another week, another PS3 exclusive downed. This time, it's a game I really anticipated playing since when it was originally released and I never got around to watching the cut-scenes on the tube either even though I really wanted to.
Yakuza 3
First off, I know there's probably only a handful of people here who've gone through a single one of these games, but for those who have, they know how awesome it is. Sure the combat and controls are a bit archaic, but the story/drama/script is some of the best you'll find in video gaming. The fact that they opt to use the original JP voice acting with sub titles is just that much better, because Yakuza 1 tried English voice acting on a very heavy Japan-centric story, it did not do well.
Yakuza 3 is a VERY meaty game, it has a lot of content. It took me nearly 20~ hours to beat it, for the record (as I heard on the podcast) I am not playing FFXII, but was rather playing this since I finished Uncharted 1 like 2 weeks ago.
This is one of those things for which you absolutely NEED to know the previous story, thankfully there's lengthy "Previously on" videos, like 20 minutes for each entry that cover just about everything you'd need to know
.Here's the brief 'standard' review format for Yakuza.
Graphics: The game's graphics can be divided into two categories, real-time in-game graphics are very painfully sub HD, but they retain a lot of detail, the location of Kamurucho looks like a living breathing sector of Tokyo. Then there's the cut-scenes, the game uses VERY high fidelity models and lighting for the cut-scenes (think of it like the diff. between RE5's in-game and cut-scene models). The cut-scenes look fan-fucking-tastic. Better than MGS4's. That's a fact.
Sound (VA/Music): The Japanese voice acting is fantastic, sure I don't understand a lick of it but the way it's delivered is enough to determine that a lot of effort went into it. The character tones, dilects are just about perfect. The general 'music' isn't noteworthy, but battle music are pretty good.
Story: Fantastic, if there's one reason you need to play this game, it's the story alone. Great stuff, exciting and engaging through and through, sure some cut-scenes are a bit on the longer side, but come on .. it's a Japanese game, what do you expect ?
Presentation: Again, fanastic. The presentation is top notch, everything about the Japanese city scapes are visually amazing. I said the same thing in my ancient Yakuza 1 review I posted on PG back in the mid 2000's, and it holds true even now.
Longevity: The game is huge, the main story takes a long time but you also have 101 side quests too, most of the experience you'll get will be from the side quests, and they are entertaining too. Some are just "go to x place, fight guys, end" but there's side quests that span multiple chapters as well.
Overall: I very much enjoyed each second of the game. I can very safely say that while God of War 3 has been the best "eye candy" game on PS3 so far, this was the best time I had playing a PS3 game overall.

I'll wait a little while before starting Yakuza 4 now, don't wanna burn out on the franchise too much. Though from what i've read everyone saying, Yakuza 4 is supposed to be a much better game. Should be awesome.

^I should better put it on download then. I love good stories and judging from your opinion, this game's strongest point is story.
I guess the next game i'll start is UC2 ;pi have a 2 day weekend coming up, i'm thinking of getting both UC2 and 3 done during the break, so i can finally be able to play the last of us

I like that Uncharted 2 only has like 10 seconds of load, compared to Uncharted 1 having to load like 40 seconds (maybe it's something that only happened cause i'm using jailbreak). I've heard a lot of stories about The Last of Us having a minute or two long load times as well, lets see how that goes.
You don't want to play UC3 directly after UC2. The leap is not as big as from UC1 to UC2. Besides, you don't want to burnout on the experience. yeah i dont plan on playing sequel games one after the other. I have like 40 other games .. so after UC2 I might play something else, by that time Lightning Returns is probably gonna be out as well, so most probably that will be my next game.

I still haven't actually played Killzone 2, i just gave it a 15 minute go and the controls were so bad i didnt want to play more of it, though i did download the 100 mb patch and applied it, haven't played the game since whether the controls get any better or not.

The only game i am able to finish uptil now is GTA V (finished it last night). Busy schedule and insane loadshedding didn't allow me to play anything properly, but for the last few days PESCO decided to have some mercy on us
Since GTA V and The Last of Us were the top games of 2013 (according to reviews) so after finishing GTA V i started The Last of Us, played for an hour and i have a feeling that the game will have a strong story BUT the enemy AI and the shooting mechcanics are weak which is a deal breaker for me atleast. I know i'll get a lot of stick for saying something bad about this game but this is what i think of the game uptil now. There were a few ocassions where i passed infront of the enemy and they won't see me and then there were ocassions where i would be sneaking behind them and some how they would know that i am there. Sometimes the enemy would run here and there like retards :/ lol. Aiming with L1 and shooting with R1 seems a bit odd, should have used the triggers instead. I'll look into the controls to see if there's anyway to change those.
I hope it gets better, started it with a lot of expectations. How long is it BTW?

so i played a good 4~ hours of UC2 yesterday, went up till chapter 8 i believe, i like that you can take screens directly from the XMB. Here's a few (downsized because they were too large) screens.

It's also missing the PSN games and the PS2 classics i've got, this is only showing the extracted PS3 games, so in total i'm sitting on about 50~ games right now for PS3.

I have never faced this issue. what difficulty are you playing on? Jail broken?
I say this because the A.I of enemies is by far one of the best I have seen..I would call the shooting mechanics different, but not weak.
Also if you are talking about Ellie not being able to be detected by A.I thats casue devs intentionally made sure that her getting caught wouldn't disrupt the experience

oho, you have just started it... They detect you because of Marlene. Also it is very very hard to pass them without noticing, just because there are alot of enemies in the area...it usually takes around 12-14 hours long to finish SPNo i am talking about humans.
