A game doesn't have to be linear to give a compelling narrative or an overall enjoyable experience (G-T- f**kin-A anyone???).
So you're saying GTA has a compelling narrative ? :p

because that's kinda messed up lol .. GTA's story is all over the place hence the Episodes are seemingly better because they're more tightly constrained. Alan Wake hasn't had the seemingly free roam or tackle events the way you want them aspect to it from day 1 and all Remedy have said is how the story and how it's woven is the most important feature of the title.

Hence 6 months wasted trying to achieve something that ended up being not suitable for the goal they had in mind with their main focus, i-e the narrative. Doesn't mean Remedy are being lazy developers lol.

It doesn't HAVE to be linear.

The more freedom you give to the player, the harder it gets to deliver a good narrative and storyline,
And Remedy realized that it wasn't possible for them to make Alan Wake a Sandbox game and a good thriller at the same time. That's why I'm glad they left the Sandbox crap when they did.

It would be sad if the game turned out sour!!
Considering it feels like a mix between Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark (latest one).

Never said they are... Like I said, it was common sense (and a wise choice) to take the linear approach than end up having a sandbox game they couldn't handle.

it just seems the headline of that 'news' is being mistaken for a worldy sacrifice lol ..and how everything related to this game or Remedy is being exagerrated to a whole new level :p

Well they've already gone on record saying that their studio's well being depends on how well the game is received, so if they screw up.. they won't be getting another chance to :p

That was just recently known to us. And the omittion of a sandbox feature is wayyyy too old lol. That just goes without saying...They've put ALOT of time/effort for sure... who would want another "Too Human"? Def not Remedy :p

Alan Wake could set a new benchmark in Xbox 360 graphics: According to a moderator of the official Remedy forum, Alan Wake runs in constant 30 FPS. Some menus and manuscript pages will locked to 60 FPS. And: The Xbox 360 hardware gives them the ability to apply 4xAA on trees and bushes.

Ahhh heres your answer USUF. Its not Full-screen AA :p I'd rather have them use those GPU cycles on the character models and near-by objects. Given that day time sequences will be there, the dark nature of the game and the added motion blur like those in the screenshots can take care of them bushes.

There is ONE problem with sandbox game when telling a "compelling" narrative. I'll just give an example. Take GTA IV or ME 2. Both of them are LOADED with side missions and everything. Its YOUR choice where to go, when to go which could "hurt" the flow of the story. For xample, after completing a critical story mission where something really BIG happened, if I go on playing side missions only to come back later and resume the STORY missions, it wont have the same impact.

That is where sandbox games can hurt the flow of the narrative.

Re: Alan Wake Media BLOWOUT

The flow of the "main" narrative perhaps. It's upto you how YOU want the story to play through. First time I played ME2 I ONLY focused on the main storyline. Next time, it was my choice to do side missions as well. Didnt affect my experience much. Having some choice is still better. I still would've wanted them to experiment with that idea. But can't really argue since now they're aiming for a 'TV/episodic' experience.

Mafia also had a good story, yes? & it was a sandbox game!

I like sandbox games, every game should be an openworld sandbox game!

It took them SIX years to make a linear game. How long do you think it would have taken them to make a sandbox game? :p

A game doesn't have to be sandbox to be good. Similarly, being sandbox doesn't mean you can't tell a good story. It just requires a lot more effort.

Well yap about something worth yapping. The gameplay.
I mean - how many of you think that things might get a wee bit boring in constantly doing what we've seen him doing?

Come to think of it. All I have been doing in UC2 is climbing street signs and shooting enemies and it does get boring. Repetition is the bane of most next gen games. Hopefully Alan Wake won't have too much of the same repetitive gameplay.

Yes, things CAN get a bit repetitive. But let's hope that what we have seen during trailers is just a part of gameplay, not whole of it. And most important thing about this game is its story. If story is good than I won't care much even if gameplay takes the back seat.

Now imagine how boring it would've been without the platforming, cover based gun fights and close quarters, in your case that is?

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
