That UC2 example doesn't make much sense. The gameplay involves some puzzles and platforming and it has a variety of different environments. It didn't feel repititive to me. Kinda agree with Shyber though... but maybe they're not trying to spoil anything for us, hopefully. Any idea how long the game is supposed to be?

If story is good than I won't care much even if gameplay takes the back seat.
I think what you're looking for is a REALLY good novel. Plenty out there btw ;)

Come to think of it. All I have been doing in UC2 is climbing street signs and shooting enemies and it does get boring. Repetition is the bane of most next gen games.
well now .. :p

Let's hope the thrilling novel esque plot and setting for Alan Wake doesn't turn out into a similar snooze fest :p

Have you NEVER played any adventure game? Don't tell me you played games like Monkey Island, Grim Fandage and The Longest Journey for their gameplay :p
Actually love to play point-n-click games :p Those you mentioned are totally different from what Alan Wake is supposed to be like. This seems more heavy on gameplay too... with its combat and 'realistic' nature of the game (setting traps, use of light etc). Gameplay has to be just as good here, or atleast not broken/glitchy.

Well yap about something worth yapping. The gameplay.
I mean - how many of you think that things might get a wee bit boring in constantly doing what we've seen him doing?
That won't happen if they can get some good scenarios in the objectives, One of the most awesome things about the gameplay is the use of light, like in one scenario there was a generator which if activated would turn on lights under which those "things" were standing which would kill them. It's stuff like that that'll make Alan Wake's gameplay fun.

And like Conscript said repetition is the bane of most games these days, The one basic thing you do in an FPS is shoot people, take cover and shoot em again, and it's stays the same throughout most of the game's duration, i.e MW2

I raised the point of gameplay, for the sake of "yapping" as you people put it. Otherwise anyone who's been through Silent Hill 2 knows just what kind of gameplay is needed for games with moody settings like these.

Shattered memories has proved that good story or narration is possible without any combat at all!!! I have a feeling Alan Wake won't disappoint (y)

That's really not a good example, unless you're trying to imply that if the story/plot is that good the faults of the gameplay can be largely overlooked because that's what Silent Hill 2 is for me, mediocre gameplay but excellent story/narration.

I've watched alot of Alan Wake videos and I can safely say that Alan wake's gameplay will be good, not the best but still very good, perfect for a thriller.

I'm being optimistic that that is probably the worst case scenario.

Remedy has stated countless times that the one of the reasons they took 7 years to make a new game is that they are constantly trying to make Alan Wake actually FUN to play. I trust em. Not a moment in Max Payne 1 & 2 was boring. I sure hope the experience stays gripping from START to FINISH.

In addition to their convoluted story/narration, the Silent Hill games have been all about attention to detail....little mind bending things that, when taken as a whole, create the spine-chilling atmosphere we've all come to appreciate....SH3's the best example of this

Visuals aside, if Alan Wake can pull off such psychological mind games with the player, it'll be a sure shot treat for us fans of the horror genre

P.S. Spooky GIF is spooky :p

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

  • L LegacyGamerGuy:
Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.

It is indeed the worst generation by far.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
