PS2 era : This is a toss up, @Shyber would recommend you play FFX, but I would personally recommend playing FF12 because of its huge leap in production values and modernized gameplay mechanics.

A significant leap in terms of modernized gameplay, yes, but its production values were most certainly lacking in comparison to FFX. Part of the reason why the game was so dull and uninspiring.

Agree with this. FFVI, VII, and IX are the best Final Fantasy games as far as I'm concerned, with IX being the most accessible (followed by VII).

edit : also don't listen to the heathens above, Xenoblade is NOT the best JRPG ever -_- , infact it's one of the most overrated pieces of shit game. I tried playing it on PG's recommendation once again but I couldn't force myself past the disc switch point.

Xenogears may not have aged well (it's only been, what, 15 years since its release ), but Xenoblade is a completely different story. It has the most modernized gameplay mechanics and the largest world map you will ever see in a JRPG. You really ought to try it

Crisis Core is not turn-based but it's on the PSP. If you have that, I would suggest you play it & ff 7 after it & then watch the Final Fantasy Advent Children Complete CG movie in the last. (sm1)

yeah I made one and I loved that game and I don't know how many hours I put in that game all thanks to Pakgamers. Now I am at the same point again but this time game is different

I honestly don't get you guys, In what world is FF IX the most accessible FF? It is the Best FF but it's not the most accessible one.Out of the three PS1 FFs it's the least accessible.FF VIII is such a simple game to play, all you need to do is figure out how the leveling system works and you can move on with the story with 0 grind or you can level up if you want more challenging Boss fights.

That's exactly why I feel VIII is the least accessible. Level scaling, coupled with the random boss difficulty, makes things somewhat unpredictable.

Thankfully, Square realized it wasn't a great idea and no future FF game incorporated it.

FFVII and IX are comparatively simple. Grinding gets you through all the difficult parts.

There's only 2 things you need to remeber while playing FF VIII

1: DOn't evel grind.Run away from all the random encounter.

2: Stock up on spells.

That's it.ANd damn does FF VIII have some satisfying limit breaks.Renzokuken and shit.Plus the best boss themes in the series.FF VIII's junction system IMHO was a stroke of genious.It wasn't perfect but it had potential to become a great system.

If you can withstand grind then FF IX is the way to go but the OP already said he doesn't like random battles and FF IX is the most annoying PS1 FF in that respect.

FF series has its own specific taste and not all gamers can enjoy playing it, I have spent more than 500+ hours playing/grinding FFX and enjoyed every second of it.

Was just playing FFVIII. I don't know if this game is epic or not, I can't play it because of its graphics. 3d characters on Prerendered backgrounds. sorry everyone who suggested me but I just can't.I am trying to play according to FF series timeline.
