U a Chrono fan aswell ? :D man tht game is just epic....stroyline was simply insane...there was a fan based follow up called Chrono Trigger: Chrimson Echoes which got Cease nd Desist letter from tht mofo Sq. Enix....banda puche khud sequel nhn banaa skte the to saley dusray ko he rights tranfer kr dete :p

before final fantasy i had played Pokemon titles so the slow battles and turn based attacks didn't bother me, the best thing about final fantasy games is the story.You should try Kingdom Hearts Series they are action/rpg titles with no turn based battles...

Well For Starters U should try Chrono Cross........It will totally immerse u in the JRPG realm......after that I think u should try Final Fantasy games....cus Chrono Cross as compared to FF Games is far simpler......First try Simpler Ones then try the Complex Ones........If u plan to play a FF game then Storywise FF10 is the Best.......Gameplay wise FF12.....and for the perfect balance of both try FF9 and FF7...........................BE WARNED!!Only Try FF8 if u have played all other FF's....cus it is totally Different Gameplay Wise!!!!!!!Best of luck for ur JRPG Session:wink2:

for most of the recent final fantasies anyway.


@FAIZY56 you're playing one of the oldest FF's and that too on your cell phone, obviously you're going to hate it ..

what I would recommend if you want to get the general "feel" of FF is to play 1 final fantasy from each generation so you know how the series has generally evolved over the years ...

here's MY personal recommendations :

NES era : Play FF1 , the first FF to see how the series began.
SNES era : Play either FF IV (called FF 2 in US) or FF VI (called FF3 in US). Both of these are fantastic games and either would be a good time sink.
PSX era : Definitely play FF9, the other two have not aged well and FF8 has a very stupid plot that will just put you off.
PS2 era : This is a toss up, @Shyber would recommend you play FFX, but I would personally recommend playing FF12 because of its huge leap in production values and modernized gameplay mechanics.
PS3/360 era : Play FF13 just to see how bad it is and exactly why people hate it.


These games will be worthy time sinks trust me.


but my personal opinion, if you just want to start a really good JRPG that has great fleshed out characters, and easy to get into gameplay mechanics, take Gizmo's advice and play Persona 4. You will not regret a single second.


edit : also don't listen to the heathens above, Xenoblade is NOT the best JRPG ever -_- , infact it's one of the most overrated pieces of shit game. I tried playing it on PG's recommendation once again but I couldn't force myself past the disc switch point :p.

Avoid the game at all costs.

Man, I would have personally have you play through FF9 as the first FF, since that game is so easy, accessible and fun to get into.

What I would recommend you to do(since you arent a fan of turn based games)
play crisis core.. you will love it no turn based battles:wink2:from the ending you will then probably get the urge to play FFVII... then when you play FFVII.. you will get the urge to know what happens in the story so you will probably not be bothered too much by the ATB system..

When you finish FFVII.. you probably wont hate turn based battles that much now that you have played FFVII to the end..so go and play FFIV(DS version) or FFX.. they are both great(IV is better IMO). Then go and play FFXII to get into the first 3d open world final fantasy game.. that will probably get rid(or at least lessen) the hate for turn based battles:wink2:

Play VI afterwards(my 2nd best Final fantasy game)then VIII. IX is great too but those insane amount of random battles just piss me off

As awesome as FF IX it is not the best game to start off with.The random encounter rates and the grind. :S

I used to watch my brothers play Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9 and 10 when i was little. Didn't play the game though. Although I would love to. But still even watching the story was worth it. Not only that FF has always had good music too.
If you hate turn based RPG's then try Xenoblade. It has a very long playthrough but its worth it. It's an ultimate RPG.

WTF! Just downloaded FFVIII and it was for PC. I was not able to play it in 1080p cz its max res is 640x480. Now I have to download PS version again.

    Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

    tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
