PTCL is at it again with their unprofessional behaviour. Here is my recent experience with them.
1. up until 2 days ago, the modem used to sync at around 9200 Kbps. Which translated to 7.8-7.9MB on speedtest with around 970KBps download.
2. So somehow my line got messed up with a lot of noise (ONU number). I went to small DB near my home where my phone line is connected and replaced my pair with an extra and line noise was gone. So I checked with my older pair and noise was gone, I left it with old pair connected. In the morning Lineman showed up and told me he replaced the pair. I checked the stats and my SNR was improved by 5db so I said okay the problem is solved.
3. Now the interesting thing happened. My sync rate dropped to exactly 8567Kbps. Which is around 7.2MB and download is 900-910KBps.
4. So I called the dreaded 1218 which is always a last resort for me. The guy on the line said to do the usual BS like do a speedtest and this and that. After telling him that my speed is dropped by almost 1MB and not improving with attainable rate of around 20,000. He said PTCL claims 60% of package speed and that only if I am getting below 4.8MB he can register a complaint. I told him to connect with his supervisor, and another lady started saying same stuff. I told her I was getting full speed up until 2 days ago and suddenly my connectivity rate is dropped. The same story of 60% was repeated. I told her it makes no sense, like if I am getting 5MB on 8MB, I am not eligible for complaint? and her reply was typical. Let alone a difference of less than 1MB.
I am pretty sure, they did something from exchange which dropped my connectivity rate by almost 1MB which was previously rock solid on same line and even though SNR and attainable rate are improved, the speed is dropped.
(Losing almost 70KB from download speed means a lot as torrents take overhead and at one time my router handles 10-11 devices.)
5. Now I am not sure what to do, any ideas? Might try another pair or replace the fuse. I do have a history of speedtests on my mobile if that's of any use.
Or should I wait for Optix which is being launched in my Askari by the end of April. Already talked to them and they seem professional people.
