THE BOOK OF LIFE (2014)
"No Retreat. No Surrender."​

Two Mexican dudes, Manolo and Joaquín trying to impress a Señorita Maria, usual romantic stuff. Hm, well there are two Gods, La Muerte; the rule of Land of Remembered, and Xibalba; the ruler of the Land of the Forgotten ... and their wagers about mankind. A 'Weirdo with a beardo' making 'life' candles. Formulatic, but likable and refreshing idea. Its funny, charming, and has absolutely spectacular art work. This is a kids movie, so drop down to that level right now.

Main plot doesn't feel that original, but its characters are just refreshing, and inadvertently funny. I chuckled at the jokes. "I hear she reads books, like for fun", "You don’t know women my love", "Real man with a really awesome mustache", "What is with Mexicans and death?", 'arthritis', 'Slapping the cheating Xibalba', 'Mama's cholesterol', and that 'cute piggy Chuy' ... The humor is just 'cute'. So stupid, so childish. Had a pretty good laugh at "Hey Chakkal! Why don’t you pick someone your own size? Cuz no one is that big, man." -_-

My main attraction is the art work. Its just so beautiful. I love how they didn't choose to go for extremely realistic looking animation, yet Reel FX Creative Studios' has put some heart and soul in their amazing work. Not only that, the brilliant cinematography is apparent. Many action scenes ('bull fighting', 'worthy puzzle' and especially "prepare to be judged"), are quite mind blowing. Due to this, The Book of Life retains its 'charm'. The Land of Remembered and The Day of the Dead, and all the Sanchez Family lightens up your mood, without being overly dramatic ... except for the "don't forget me" ending, which felt awesome, btw.

What i didn't like, was the musical stuff. Given the 'Mexican' setup and 'The Guitarista', they could've just sung the "Guitar/Banjo Only" songs and they would have felt amazing, for something 'played by heart'. But the extra musical instruments behind the banjo play made it seem ... well, kinda lame. Apart from that, with famous named voice actors under its belt, Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Ron Perlman, Ice Cube etc, so it does exceptionally well in that department.

I loved The Book of Life's cuteness more, and it was very entertaining. The amount of work done on it, should be praised highly. 7/10 This level of brilliance is a rarity from studios other than Dreamworks or other bigger names.

Seems like a ripoff of The Hurt Locker which was much better... but still a good flick 7/10

THE IMITATION GAME

Nice flick... not as good as A Beautiful Mind though but still worth a watch! 7.5/10

Annabelle: I was expecting a bit more of it...just an okayish kind of movie..Conjuring was way better than this.Whenever Annabelle came on screen it remind me of “Haunted House 2” LOL….6/10.

Penguins of Madagascar: I don’t like Madagascar movies but this movie is different. It was fun really liked those dumb penguins 7/10.

The Book of Life: A colorful, funny, musical animated love story. The land of remembered looks like “Grim Fandango World”…Nice animation, good music and a good story..20[SUP]th[/SUP] century fox are making good animated movies now..7.5/10

TWELVE MONKEYS (1995)
"The Future is History!"

Twelve Monkeys have rotted in my PC for such a long time now that i can't even remember it. Finally watched it last night, and MIND = BLOWN. A lot of emotionally intense and mind boggling stuff because 'totally convincing reality'. This isn't an ordinary time travel stuff. The time travel itself has been kept so discreet without any high-level CGI, that its astonishing. Poof; just disappears (that scene where 'Willis is standing in a small water pond', or when 'disappears from that strapped bed in mental institution') . The suspense is intense with this one.


And the plot is so engaging which thickens consistently. James Cole (Willis) travels back from the future as an 'observer' to find the source of a Virus outbreak which caused all population to go underground the earth. It seems simple, and there are dozens of hints, questions, and key points spread around ... but the question still remains at the end; If James Cole was or wasn't successful in obtaining the source of virus.


Funny how James trying to make people believe that he is from the future, but people don't believe him; and when people do come to believe him because of the indications, he believes he is insane. Amusing to watch that part of the plot. The indications; 'the bullet', 'that kid hiding in the barn', 'the virus', 'that message left by Kathryn' ... everything is kept right infront of us but execution is interesting. Seeing those 'flashbacks' multiple times, i thought i had predicted the ending, but that small twist got me ...

... about 'Twelve Monkeys' being a couple of kids' revolution; the real threat being Goines' (Pitt) father's assistant

You can't change what has already happened. Thats a key point in pretty much every 'time travel' genre. And we see what happens to whoever tries to do that ...

Just one thing, when you watch the movie (multiple times, if you prefer), read up this detailed analysis of Twelve Monkeys, here: The Twelve Monkeys It will clear A LOT of confusions, ideas and questions your mind may raise. There is a reason why this is a remarkable movie.


Actors have crossed all barriers with legendary performances. Both Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis should have won an Oscar. Shame Willis didn't get any nomination at the very least. His 'expressions on Music in the ride to Philadelphia' are just priceless. Also, his constant 'worrying' acting always gave the feeling that 'something is off'. "I want the future to be unknown. I want this to be present. I want to stay here this time ... with you"; he says to Kathryn (Madeleine Stowe)". Absolutely beautiful chemistry with Madeleine Stowe as Kathryn Railly. Brad Pitt was just bat shit crazy. "Do you know what Crazy is? Crazy is majority rules." "You dumb assholes I am a mental patient. I am supposed to act out." "If you don’t buy a lot of stuff. You are mentally ill." Haha


The soundtrack are so futuristic for a 1995 movie. Also, very very beautiful. Ending the movie at 'What a Wonderful World' (by Louis Armstrong ... the irony. And lets not forget the deeply heart touching (violin) theme of Twelve Monkeys, and the music of "Cole's first Dream".

I read this late, that its the 2nd part of a dystopian satire trilogy. SHIT. Now I feel depressed for missing out the first one before watching this. Worry not, for i shall not leave the trilogy midway -_- Never have. A handful of times, Bad voice overs did made me cringe a little. But just look at the budget, barely $30million. And they create this magnificent Sci-Fi. Wonderful cinematography. Hell, this has become One of The Best Sci-Fi of All Time in my books, and one of my All Time Favorites. 10/10

American Sniper 7/10. I read the book, and as always, the book is far better. Actually its quite boring in parts bt the combat scenes were done well and Brad Cooper's performance was awesome. He put a lot of effort into the role and it showed.

one sick movie full of action , some action scenes were like wow , the fight scene of breaking bones looked dammn real , the movie story line is plain and simple but executed perfectly , its like a assassins league or some thing , Keanu Reeves after such a long time has bring some performance , the dialogue where he says People keep asking if I'm back, yeah I'm thinking I'm back ( fits to the man like he is saying im back in real good movie stuff )this movie deserves a sequel or more of a prequel , cause a prequel will be as awesome as this one rather than a sequel .

that and alot of other movie makers have gone with this shaky cam thingie to hide the stunt doubles etc.. no doubt this was done without that and it was AWESOME.

JOHN WICK:

An old school type action/killing movie. Keanu Reeves did all the action scenes himself. No stunt doubles. 8/10

PREDESTINATION:

Fantastic, Thought provoking and a bit mind numbing... 10/10

VERONICA MARS (2014)

"I shoot raw, man!"​

A TV Serial coming back as a movie, which i have never watched, Sadly. But Kristen Bell is a must watch for me. Saw some of the old photos of her Show and my gawd she looks so ... confident, with her girlish charm, ravishing looks and beauty. Some photos:

I can only imagine the awesomeness she would have brought to the Veronica Mars character, something still evident from this movie. The best part for me, All original actors reprise their roles.

The opening revises the basics, introduces the characters; it was the only time it felt lame. Understandable, as i have never watched the original series. After that, its constant focus on crime, mystery, romance and comedy got me excited. I can only imagine the brilliance TV series must have had. I loved Veronica Mars movie. The wit, the jokes, the relationships, all had weight. 'A Nosy Abuses will lead to ban' she is, adored her interaction with her father Keith Mars.

Loved all the cameos at 09ER, from stars like James Franco, Krysten Ritter. 'Coming to the club alone is asking for it'; hilarious moments those were lol. Joke: "Difference between prostitute and a Lawyer? Prostitute stops screwing you when you’re dead." 'Vasquez accent' gave me a pretty good laugh -_- Couldn't predict the real suspect at the end, so big points for that. All that "spying from tablet", feels ... freaky.

The movie is continuing the plot further 10 years, and the post-baby Kristen Bell has definitely lost her girlish charm a little (looks healthier, kinda fat-ish; freaking beautiful nonetheless), but hasn't lost her act. She is still the classy, sharp, seductive and attractive 'drama magnet'. I actually like Veronica Mars character. (can't quite grasp the idea behind her 'Sex Tape', though :S) I just realized that i had a big smile on my face for all the 100+ minutes. Exciting entertainment, and an engaging movie. 7/10. "My name is veronica and I am an addict."

The first one being a story that was bullshit by even the worst standards of third grade bollywood movies. They should have used the same mantra and gone with at least a girl instead of puppy. Had some action but which movie doesn't have?
Second surprise were the reviews.
Boy! it has some positive reviews as well...

Pfft, a girl that would had been cheesy as f8** dog was a great choice, who the hell doesn't love dogs man ! plus that emtional connection that they made with the audience i felt really bad for the dog man ! cmoon
