No wai ... really ? That'd be GOOD!
They do have a hardcore mode. You're restricted to the cockpit view and the cars handle a lot less forgivingly.

You never played the WRC game I was going on about, did you? That one is more in line with the older McRaes.

The thing I'm looking forward to are the rally tracks. They say they have 8 tracks per location this time around. I can't find solid info on it yet. Still I've accepted that DiRT isn't CMR, and that has made me enjoy the game a whole lot more. Hope I can get this by Monday.

Just got DiRT 3.

Played about 5 minutes of it, just to try it out.

The PS Store isn't working, so I couldnt redeem my VIP Pass, so no online or anything till tomorrow. Plus, can't access the 5 exclusive cars.

Moving on, I tried the Finland rally. Fans of sim racing will be pleased. I used the Lancia Delta Integrale and it handled just as I suspected a 4wd 300 hp hatchback would, if you catch my drift (do notice the pun). In a good way of course! It took me a while to get the carin a straight line, and you really have to use braking and stuff to take the corners properly. It was an ice track, so it was tougher than I expect the rest of the tracks to be. But I came out pleased with the whole game.

I only count 4 different "countries" where the rallies take place. And there's 8 tracks at each location. It's way better than DiRt 2, but still I would have loved more tracks. I think the 8 tracks reuse some of the sections from each other. I hope they DLC more locations.

I'll try more tonight and give my verdict. I was biased towards it as it was, but my first 5 minutes went way better than expected.

Oh, and it apparently has split-screen racing! Finally, after an absence in the past 3 Codemasters titles! Should be good fun to play with the peeps I used to Colin McRae with.

Some more reviews;

Edge 9/10

...it’s not enough to say that Codemasters has simply done it again. The story here is Block, who by introducing Gymkhana becomes the acceptable face of Americanisation. With help from much-appreciated splitscreen support, his freestyle events take multiplayer, especially, to places previous Dirts only dreamt of. At best, they remind us who gave us Micro Machines. A vast, almost encyclopaedic look at the united nations of rally, Dirt 3 doesn’t feel definitive despite America – it wouldn’t feel definitive without it.
Joystiq 4.5/5

Speed bumps aside, Dirt 3 succeeds in accomplishing what it wants to do. It has the capability to convert people who aren't particularly interested in rally racing to addicts who need just one more race or Gymkhana event. It would seem that Codemasters' love for the sport is infectious.
(Note: by "speed bumps" they mean the excess of loading screens and the annoying announcers)

Gamespot 9/10

Dirt 3 improves and builds upon its superb predecessor at just about every opportunity. The new multiplayer modes and gymkhana events are great additions, and if you're interested primarily in traditional racing disciplines, it has more than twice as many routes to race in more varied weather conditions and in an even greater selection of vehicles. Whether you're a veteran of the Dirt series and the long-running Colin McRae Rally series that preceded it, or someone looking for a way into off-road racing, Dirt 3 is the game you should be playing.
Played some more of it last night and I'm absolutely loving the living crap out of it. I still have to try the Gymkhana mode, but everything else I've tried so far is amazing.

^ get it on the PS3. I would love for a racing game to build up some community here on PG. This seems like a very good candidate. Trust me, the rally tracks can get very intense when you're head to head against someone else with milliseconds to spare.

I hate the drift challenges. The car suddenly turns into horse carriages and the roads are made of oil spill. It doesn't make any sense. Might have to go back to the intermediate setting for these events.

And even for the Gymkhana for that matter. I'm on the tutorial levels, the one with e drifting and it was driving me nuts.

Played split-screen last night with some friends. It was fun, although we both don't start at the same time. Which I good in a way, I hated the whole ghost car thing in CMR.

Good god is this game amazing or what. It doesn't hold a single flaw. Most beautiful looking racer I've ever witnessed, hell this is one of the most gorgeous games I've ever seen. Everyone should learn from codies if they want to deliver a solid racer.
Gameplay: 9.6
Graphics: 10
Sound: 9.6
Overall: A solid 9.7/10

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.
