I am disappointed to see that no one even mentioned Season 1, for me it was the best of all.
The reason being the serial killer was related to dexter, over the course of the season they unveiled dexter's past and they didn't knew the killer up until the last couple of episodes.
Season 2 and 4 were also good but nothing like season 1. I however have not complaints about the ending.

finally someone who thinks the same way as I do. Season 4 was by far the best season of Dexter! Trinity Killer was a great villain, after that season 7 comes in as a close second! Season 2 with that Abuses will lead to ban Lila was shit and Season 3 with that annoying Miguel Prado was even more shittier!!!
Trinity topped them all, the guy gave you chills everytime. After him Isaac Sirkov was an interesting character and so was the Season 6 or 5 baddy the Apocalypse one. That season was so gruesome it was epic.

Well I just watched the finale.

Hard to say anything at the moment; the show that was once known for defining moments in it's genre hit the lowest possible echelons of, whatever it was, with the end. Frankly, I still think that season 7 would've made a perfect ending, a freaking perfect ending, had they mad Debra shot Dexter in the crane. We had so many great seasons, first four were great, but the show really dragged with season 5 and 6. Season 7 was up there, in almost every imaginable way, with the greatness of season 1 and 2.

This season started out good, not great, not bad either. Even if it went the way it did up until the finale, there were a number of possible, perhaps way better alternatives, to end it. I am perfectly fine with Hannah getting away with Harrison. I am perfectly fine with Debra dying; infact I actually like the fact that they killed her, given the circumstances despite the face that I liked her character and her acting from the beginning.

Dexter was the bad guy, wasn't he? Or even if he was a good guy, how could they let him just go away. He was a killer afterall. They could've ended the show with him finally being caught. I mean, there were so many better ways. There has always been a suspicious person in almost every season that had boggled Dexter, right? They could've started here.

I don't remember the season, where Quinn was after Dexter. I remember near the end, someone shows Quinn the photos of Dexter dumping bodies in the ocean and he just glances at them and ignores them. I mean, what the hell? Surely, it's not season 8 that it happened in but still, they could've used this.

Or even if they wanted to end it the way it did, why on God's green earth did they had to show him alive in the last few seconds. I mean, I could've lived with the ending where Dexter gets rid of the body of his final victim and dies peacefully in the face of the storm. Or better yet, Dexter could've drowned with Debra, as someone before me cited; it would've been pretty good too.

All in all, the season was a disappointment. It wouldn't have been if there weren't no season 7, but unfortunately, yeah...

Now that you mention it, I also think that would've been a better way to end the show. Debra could've gone on to live a normal life after the temporary guilt of killing her sibling. She wasn't the one who deserved to die (nor was Laguerta, for that matter). She'd naturally have taken care of Harrison as well. Heck, he could've gone back to living with Cody and Astor. It would've given the show some proper closure.

I watched Breaking Bad finale recently, and even tho I haven't followed the whole series (like Ive followed Dexter), I know the writers increased the pace to breakneck in the last eps, culminating in an actually satisfying finale.

Dexter writers on the other hand, seemed on winding up the whole show by dialing it down as opposed to the usual tactic of bam-bam-BAM BAM DEAD! speed finale most other famous series have gone for.

Whatever it was the showrunners had in mind (and Im sure they had something maybe they'll explain it on dvd commentary) Im sure they have a good reason for it. The final scenes showing dexter nonchalantly driving a log truck and munching on sandwiches perhaps tells the viewers to go back to whatever they were doing before.

CLOSURE is what was missing from the finale.

Season 7's final episode is my favorite Dexter episode and I concur that should've been the end with Deb shooting Dex. I really can't think of a better way to have ended it. It would've made for an outstanding finale.

Chills! Former Dexter Producer Clyde Phillips Reveals How He Planned to End the Series

Dexter is no more. In case you haven't yet seen tonight's series finale, we won't post any spoilers here about Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) getting a sex change and running off with Masuka. (Jokes!)
But we can exclusively share with you an amazing alternate ending.

Clyde Phillips served as an executive producer and showrunner on Dexter in the early years, helping shape the series for its first four seasons until he decided to leave the show in late 2009, at the end of the Trinity Killer (John Lithgow) season, which ended with Rita's shocking death.

READ NOW: See how many Dexter fans wanted Dexter to die

I tracked down Phillips, who now serves as executive producer of Showtime's Nurse Jackie, and asked (OK, possibly begged) him to share what he had planned for the very end of Dexter...assuming he had one.
Turns out, he did have a very specific ending in mind, and it's possibly one of the best series-finale ideas I've ever heard.

"I haven't shared this with anyone," Philips told me. "And I can tell you that this is what I personally would have done should I have stayed with the show. I chose not to stay with the show, and so everybody did what they did, and I had no problem with that…and I think they did a good job with the final episode. But here is what I personally would have pitched."

SCOOP: Will there be a Dexter spinoff?

"In the very last scene of the series," Philips explained, "Dexter wakes up. And everybody is going to think, 'Oh, it was a dream.' And then the camera pulls back and back and back and then we realize, 'No, it's not a dream.' Dexter's opening his eyes and he's on the execution table at the Florida Penitentiary. They're just starting to administer the drugs and he looks out through the window to the observation gallery.
"And in the gallery are all the people that Dexter killed—including the Trinity Killer and the Ice Truck Killer (his brother Rudy), LaGuerta who he was responsible killing, Doakes who he's arguably responsible for, Rita, who he's arguably responsible for, Lila. All the big deaths, and also whoever the weekly episodic kills were. They are all there.
"That's what I envisioned for the ending of Dexter. That everything we've seen over the past eight seasons has happened in the several seconds from the time they start Dexter's execution to the time they finish the execution and he dies. Literally, his life flashed before his eyes as he was about to die. I think it would have been a great, epic, very satisfying conclusion."
Anyone else have chills from the top of their scalp to the tip of their toes?

Phillips further explained that his idea for the ending was inspired by An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge, the 1890 story by Ambrose Pierce about a Confederate soldier that is famous for its time-altering, plot-twisting ending. When the soldier is hanged, the rope breaks, he falls into the river, swims to shore, runs toward his family, see his wife and children and right before they are reunited, the rope catches and he dies. It turns out that the entire story takes place in the two to three seconds between the soldier's intial drop and his neck snapping.

So much better !

It would have been awesome IF Debra had spilled the beans on Laguerta's death and Dexter's involvement and everyone found out and the FBI/Police man hunt for Dexter as they chased him throughout the country! Now THAT would have been awesome! :D

There was a lot that was wrong with the ending. The only reason I liked it is because I was very positively expecting something A LOT worse (A happily-ever-after sort of ending).

I'm not a fan Clyde Phillip's version either. I'd rather have the last season as it is than one where Dexter is tried and executed by the state.

I agree with bilalk85. The writers should've let Deb confess. That's just one of countless intriguing possibilities that the writers chose to ignore. Something interesting could've been done with Matthews as well. All the side characters became a joke after season 4, while some were needlessly killed (Frank Abuses will lead to bany).

How AWESOME would it have been IF Abuses will lead to bany lived and HE was the one who is reinstated and comes back to hunt down Dexter after Deb's confessions!?? OMG thats pure awesomeness!

I should be a writer for Dexter, ROFL!! (lmao)

That is another great alternative ending.

Dexter being charged for all the murders. He was, after all, an outlaw

Nah Abuses will lead to bany was a special agent in the FBI. Chasing is a police officer's job. Besides, Abuses will lead to bany's charm lay in his ability to solve serial-killer cases. To make a storyline with Abuses will lead to bany work, Abuses will lead to bany should've been the one to deduce Dexter's true nature (as he probably, to some extent, did).

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.
