Ok, so the next PS3-only game I finished over this weekend:
Uncharted 1
Here's my brief impressions:
- The game looks great, colorful, varied environments and seamless game play (i-e no loading, and besides some texture popin, there really wasn't anything outright 'wrong' with the visuals.
- I don't get all the love of the naughty dog animation system, the animations are jittery, drake awkwardly shifts back and forth if you make quick movements and jumping fom ledge to ledge feels really weird, some times drake makes huge 10 meter long leaps, sometimes he makes 2 foot leaps, but they all look the same "animation" wise.
- I had some minor issue with the music kicking in and out whenever guards would show up, but I guess I am playing the game via jailbrkoen methods, so some annoyances are to be expected.
- Game play was good, simple, like Gears but a bit more fluid. This is by far the most easiest to get into PS3 game i've played.
- The difficulty has a ridiculous spike near the end, when one hit shotgun enemies start charging you too much :-/ .. the very final boat sequence is a really bad segment game play wise.
- The few QTE's the game has, are very bad. This is definitely NOT how to do QTEs.
- Nolan North sounds .. i don't know.. i've heard him so much by now, so that 'unqiue' aspect has worn off already.
- I swear the six axis controls are fucking broken, especially whenever the zombie things grab you. It's good later PS3 games ditched them altogether -_-
Overall, I quite enjoyed the game because of it's easy to get into game play, it got me well accustomed to the Dualshock 3 sticks without needing to twist my fingers in weird ways. The game also looks fairly nice, the only thing it could have used was some anti aliasing because the edges in all outdoor environments (with bright lighting) stand out too much.
8/10
The next game I've started playing is .. dun dun dun.. Yakuza 3.
