Well I'm in grade 10 which is the second year of O-levels and I've basically missed grade 9's Physics , so that means I don't know the basics. Now I need to catch up immediately so where should I start learning physics ? Through books? Online - Khan Academy, or a tutor ? I have a tutor who can teach me physics but I want to do it on my own and then ask him the stuff I don't get. So which topics should I start off with ? Since I really don't get much of the stuff we are doing in class right now.

Much help would be appreciated, thanks.

yar my advice...if u want to complete in the fastest way with ability to keep that in mind for the longest possible time....read book yourself (i read pacific physics) in the light of syllabus.....carefully read it...then take any solved past pprs book (red spot is best) and see how questions are solved there......trust me if u do it right u wil get awsome result....at end solve yearly pst pprs with mark scheme and nothing can stop you from getting an A*......dont solve pst pprs like really doing it in an exam, keep your eye on the mark scheme (this is if u dont have much time)......but my way is that only solve a few pprs like in real exam at end...

I suggest you "Physics Matters" or "Complete Physics"
They will help you they are great books if you have general understanding of physics and not that dumb then they are for you im personally studying from them

and one thing...study any book you feel comfortable with...but just take a good look at solved past pprs....even if you dont understand a topic, you probably will......a fighter cant fight in the best way unless he faces someone even if he trains imensly...hope you get my point....and studying yourself will be more usefull then from someone since it tends to stay in your mind for longer periods of time

If you are wondering in which order to study. Then take a look at the CIE Syllabus for Physics: (Syllabus Content starts from Page 13)

http://www.xtremepapers.com/CIE/Cambridge O Levels/5054 - Physics/5054_y12_sy.pdf

The order in that syllabus is the preferred one.

For the book, I found "Chemistry Matters" by Charles Chew very easy to read and it is according to the syllabus. (One section is missing: Radioactivity, but you'll probably study that at the end of 11th class).

If you study from Khan Academy, do consult your syllabus closely because not all the topics found on Khan's website will be in your syllabus.

Yaar O Level physics is really, REALLY easy!

But since you've been careless (as proposed by yourself earlier on some other thread), I'd suggest reading the chapters from that green book and asking an elder sibling/parent/relative to help you out and do as much past papers and question practice as you can.

Doosra, try to go through the initial chapters. They're really, really easy. I'm pretty sure one can do it themselves. If you still don't understand, seek the help and advice of a tutor.

Good luck!

Buy past papers i.e Pure Physics [Yearly] and start solving them, you cant build your concepts on your own. I faced same situation as yours, solved 5-6 years past papers in april before that was trying to clear my concepts from book but i couldn't understand a single word. I'll suggest you to solve ATLEAST 10 years past papers. You can know the answer + explanation for questions on the right side of the book. they've explaned it quite book. Note: Teachers will not recommend you this book, just ignore them, Good Luck! ;)

I wont recommend it either. It is often misleading. But I nor would I recommend not buying it.

I used the old 1980-2004 yearly for the papers only.

The recent ones, take the marking schemes and read them. That's what you score using.

These answers will give you the core of the text, but not highlight on the things you HAVE HAVE HAAAVVE to mention.

My suggestion, buy, from an old book shop, an old yearly/topical and the past 10 years' marking schemes + question papers and go thoroughly through the marking schemes after solving the papers.

^ Not a decent recommendation at all, as the paper pattern is changed and if you move backwards in past years, the paper become harder n harder, i bet an A* scoring student will fail in even 1990's paper, leave the 80's

Indeed. That's what separates distinctions from A*s.

The 80's and 90's questions help build your concepts and enhance them and help your concept base in A Levels and not only score in O Levels.

Plus, you never know when these idiots hit you with a crazy ass paper.

I really don't get why kids start worrying about exams which they'll have to give at the end of grade 11 when they're in grade 9 or 10.

Just chill out, focus on Islamiat, Pak Studies and Urdu for now, forget you even have physics, chem and math. Next year grab a good tutor and you'll be all okay.
