Sniper has an advantage on mid aganist only a handful of heros and those hero don't normally go mid. Any nukers who can spam and bottle-Abuses will lead to ban superiorly will beat the living hell out of sniper. Queen of pain comes to my mind who can completely zone out a sniper from level 1. Her AA will ensure that denying will be extremely difficult and SS will drain your HP to the point where one scream might grab a kill. But then again there are very few heros who can beat a good QOP mid
Besides QOP, beastmaster, razor, SF, puck, storm, night stalker, tinker hell even a Zeus can easily outlane a sniper once they hit level 3 when their nukes hurt like hell.
I'm excited every time an opposite team picks a sniper since he's basically free food until he get lothars which I try to ensure he doesn't before the 30th minute mark :laugh1:

im curious how you handle a sniper who starts with that inbuilt stun first... thats some frikking annyoying harass from the get go and you're forced to waste money on shield or pms... and that animation cancelling 'pik pik' is frikking irritating :/

You guys are discussing sniper in the realm of cm/pro level games, which is not what he's playing. I've seen sniper work mid in VH plenty of times, I've even seen him in some live games (I once observed merlini get raped by a mid sniper who went MoM).

Snipers main weaknesses in pub 2-1-2/2-1-1-1 games are mainly 1) he's susceptible to mid ganks by side lane heroes, which fortunately isn't that frequent unless theres a bara or a bounty or some other hero like that, and 2) he isn't a proficient side lane ganker, which can hold a game changing degree of importance sometimes. As far as mid laning goes, rule no.1 is to keep your skill build flexible. 2 points in range + 1 in stun + the instant attack animation means auto attack harass from sniper can be hard to deal with. There are, of course, still heroes that will rape sniper mid, but most heroes have lane counters anyway. Assuming the sniper player isn't brain dead and theres adequate warding (on a rune + on the opponent's cliff), the only way a pudge is going to beat him is getting lucky with a hook or getting invis/haste (which the sniper should see him getting cuz of wards and turtle accordingly).

Bottom line: for pub games, sniper can be a viable mid.

To note is that Sharu has gone from being hopelessly outmatched mid to winning his lane frequently, and such progress bodes well for a person who's only 1 month into the game.

as just pointed out sniper is cool for pubs where ganks are infrequent at best (unless ur matched against a stack) on the contradictory a cm match consists of lvl 2 ganks or lvl 1 ganks ...sniper until he has some items or significant levels in his slow or ultimate is entirely useless for pick offs which the current meta game is geared towards, hard carries such as sniper are never given the chance to thrive as much

Hit him back. A qop should respond by throwing in one SS combined with one or two autoattcks. Since his range will not be that high on level 1 and if he wants to trade you'll be easily be able to throw the SS. If he still wants to trade respond in kind. If he's lucky he'll permastun and kill you. If he's not it's your kill. Besides that, a beastmaster can use his axes, razor static link, tinker laser etc.... Storm and puck might not be able to beat him from the get go but they'll definitely be scoring free kills once they hit level 6.
Anyways, dodo does make a very valid point. To come so far so quickly is truly an achievement. And pudge can be raped by a sniper if the sniper is very careful of his positioning and denying almost every creep available.

it's not just about CMs.... even the high level pubs are played the same way as most CMs, the only difference being you rarely see the 3-1-1 formation in pubs... i played support, and i roamed, ganked, warded, crowed, smoked and did everything a support does in a CM.... even in these games, a sniper is hopelessly outmatched on the mid lane....

obviously, the growth is a great factor here for shary, and like i said, if it's working for him, and he's learning from it, it's great....

when you consider the fact that a pudge doesn't have to win his lane to be relevant in the game, this point becomes moot... on the other hand, one death for a sniper early on means his game is fucked if the opposite carry is farming.... i've played games on both sides, and a good pudge always beats a good sniper on the mid lane... when you consider the inherently low ms of sniper, it's impossible for him to get out of range of Rot once pudge gets up close and personal

The annoying thing about Lanaya is that you need to stop her from rune-whoring and stay with your team mostly. That way, she can't single you out & rape you with her Meld-tapping shit and her Refraction can be taken down smartly. You also need some sort of hero that can cast some sort of AOE (Pudge, Sand King, Lion, Witch Doctor, Doom, anyone with Radiance, etc.) so that her Meld is practically useless as an escape. Warding is going to be especially helpful, since Lanaya usually shows up last in ganks, lets her other team members do all the heavy-lifting and picks off targets with her massive dmg. Disabling her first is the best chance you have of surviving the encounter. If you can limit Lanaya from grabbing runes early-game and focus on her when she's farming, you can really screw her game up & rid the other team of a very good carry.
