Microsoft needs to invest in PC gaming after a short hiatus from the platform, says Microsoft Games Studios GM, Dave Luehmann.

Speaking to CVG at Microsoft's GamesCom showcase this afternoon, Luehmann argued that the Windows house can't expect third-party developers to support the platform if it's not willing to itself.

"I think we need to invest in this space," he told CVG. "Windows is an important space for us so we need to invest our first-party IP in it as much as anybody else. We cant really ask other companies to step up if the first party isn't stepping up."

On why Microsoft's appeared to snub the PC for the last few years, Luehmann said it was an issue of "focus".

"I think it was a focus thing. We started to focus on one area and now we're saying let's start to spread that focus.

"I think the whole company has been focused on console work for a long time and it's time for us to come back and bring one of our best IPs [Age of Empires] back and to a market that can really use it," he said.

Microsoft announced Age of Empires Online this morning. "I think when fans of Age get a chance to play it they're going to love it," Luehmann told us.

The PC is patient. After all, generations mean nothing to the PC.

When we were all small and playing NES, there was the PC.

When games became cool on the PlayStation, there was the PC.

When games stopped being cool on the Wii, there was the PC.

When the current consoles are silicon tombstones, there will be the PC.

There will always be the PC.

Bring Gears 2 and onwards to the PC and I`ll be a happy man. I don`t care much about other MS and ,as a matter of fact, x360 exclusives anyway

Good news. Though I'm still satisfied with what we have now.

As for Alan Wake... It was a good game, but now that I've played and finished it once, I don't wanna play it again.
A sequel maybe, yes, but not the original one.

Alan Wake was over-shadowed due to RDR's release and sales do not exhibit a game's quality right? :p

Rejoice while you can, studios always start giving the PC some attention once a generation of consoles becomes old and it becomes evident that even a mid-range GPU can pwn their graphics. Right now the 360 and PS3's hardware, which is 4-5 years old is getting out-dated and is becoming a limiting factor to devs who want to push graphical quality to new levels. Wait till the PS4 and Xbox 720 (or whatever) is out, then you'll see the PC bite the wind once again.

I'll believe that once I see PC versions of every 360 game out there.

Seriously, MS is the company that killed PC gaming in the first place.

For those of you who seem to think, re investing in PC Gaming means porting X360 games are wrong.:p Keep ur shitty Exclusives to urselfs :)p)

Perhaps thats another hint at console gamers not being smart for RTS games?
