GRID was one of the most popular racers of 2008. Ever since, gamers have been wondering when the racing title would see a sequel. Fortunately they won't have to wonder for long.
GRID was enormously popular, especially with its ten-second rewind mechanic that allowed players to back out of bad decisions. But development of the sequel fell afoul of a studio that was losing its way.
Codemasters recently went through something of an identity crisis. It had been developing action games such as Operation Flashpoint: Red River and Bodycount. But the Operation Flashpoint franchise lost popularity and Bodycount was largely dead on arrival to critics and audiences.
At the same time Codemasters had found increasing success with its racing franchises such as F1 and DiRT. As a result it chose to abandon all other genres and become a racing game developer and publisher. So GRID is finally getting its sequel four years later.
Currently Codemasters states it'll be arriving after F1 2012, so we may see GRID 2 as soon as late this year.
