I don't buy "only 5% of all the gamers use cockpit view". If you look around the internet, and examine all the comments posted on youtube and n4g, you'll barely find anyone saying "yay! They removed cockpit view, what a great decision." Almost all of them are raging. But what has been done, can't be undone. It's not like cockpits can be made overnight.

I don't see how cockpits, for all the cars can be provided through a patch. You pretty much explained why, yourself.
Well people always whine about almost anything, that's nothing new.....How much do you play in cockpit view btw :).....although they can include it in the patch if they want....

No cockpit in a semi-sim racer is not good! I hope they don't sacrifice it's sim aspect & turn it into another Dirt arcadish clone!!!

GRID 2 Won't Have a Cockpit View

Some hardcore gearheads who only play racing games that puts the camera right behind the steering wheel will be disappointed to hear some new details about GRID 2.

Codemasters' new addition to the GRID racing franchise won't have a "cockpit view," according to a post in the Codemasters' community forum.

Clive Moody, GRID 2's executive producer, explained that their decision to remove the first person view option wasn't made in haste. It was based on carefully examined data and statistics from their games that showed only 5 percent of players actually used the "in-car view".

Moody also noted that it can be quite expensive to faithfully reproduce the interior details of such a wide number of vehicles. It also takes a great deal of memory and processing to render these details in the final product.

Of course, there are trade-offs for such sacrifices that can be beneficial to players. Moody pointed out that the money they saved from skipping the in-car view in the development process allowed them to dedicate more time and resources to improving the physics engine, lighting and resolution of the rest of their cars and environments.

As an aspiring gearhead, I know I'll miss not being able to pretend like I'm actually driving the new Ford Mustang Boss 302 with the reckless courage of a heavily insured driver. However, if Codemasters can deliver these trade-offs that go far beyond my expectations, I'm sure I won't miss it.

It still has bumper cam view, right? Because I can't play racing games any other way.

I can imagine why they'd want to do away with cockpit view. Takes up too much time and money. Codemasters have had two under performing games recently, the one shooter and the soft core Dirt game.

[h=1]The Many Modes of GRID 2[/h]

[h=3]Introducing: World Series Racing (WSR)[/h]At Codemasters we love racing of every flavor, but professional motorsports have always been splintered into different disciplines and formulas around the world. One of the questions we’ve kicked around for years in the Studio has been simple – who is the greatest? Which driver from which series is the best? In GRID 2, we’re looking to answer that question with World Series Racing – WSR. It’s a new motorsport series that starts from the grassroots and grows into a huge Prime Time competition. Racers from different disciplines – street racers, drifters, track racers and more – all come together in one global series, with each driver moving in and out of their comfort zone. So who is the greatest? Join WSR in GRID 2 and find out…

[h=3]Introducing some Modes[/h]We’ve got a range of diverse events in GRID 2, so let’s introduce a few of them to you…
[h=5]Race[/h]Well, GRID 2 isn’t a driving game, it’s a racing game. That’s an important distinction. So it goes without saying that one of the game modes within GRID 2 will be Race. You know the deal, start fast, finish first and take home the glory. GRID 2 introduces a lot of new modes and features, but ultimately, we’re determined to make the best in-game racing experience whenever you’re behind the wheel and straight up racing is the heartbeat of the game.
[h=5]Eliminator[/h]Eliminator is a constant fight for position. As the event unfolds, any racer that is in last position when the time runs out is eliminated from the race and the winner is the racer who survives all eliminations. Keep up with the pack or you’re all but guaranteed to be eliminated, but careful as you trade paint with your competitors as one false move can have catastrophic results…

[h=5]Checkpoint[/h]Checkpoint is all about how you perform under pressure as you aim to cover as much distance as possible before the timer expires. You’ll have limited time to make it to the next checkpoint, so you’ll be expected to hit the apexes and find the right braking points to shave precious seconds off your time.
Stay tuned, there are more modes to come.
[h=3]Locations[/h]Variety is the name of the game when it comes to the racing locations in GRID 2. We have three broad stages of racing – Street Racing, Track Racing and Open Road Racing. We’ve recently confirmed the addition of two new circuits, Brands Hatch and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway; two famous motorsport Meccas which join the previously announced Red Bull Ring and Yas Marina. Away from these tracks you’ll be able to race around cities such as Chicago, Paris and Barcelona as well as being able to take to the road along the California Coast.

We’re hurtling down the track and that May 28th release date is getting ever closer. Fear not though, because between now and then we’ve still got lots of exciting news left to share with you all. We’ve got new locations, new cars and more game features to reveal.

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
