I don't believe it. I am hearing that consoles will support 1080p/30 FPS on BF3 quality graphics. Even that is a let down... I hope its better than that.

I hope so. But we haven't seen BF4 yet. :)
On 26th march, DICE is going to reveal BF 4, most likely on PS4 but we can't say anything concrete yet. The BF team was pretty psyched up about PS4 before the 20 feb reveal and it was rumored that BF 4 would be shown, but it didn't.

One cannot draw an apples for apple's comparison between memory on PC and on Consoles

System memory on PC is primarily used by the processor and current processor cannot fully saturate the bandwidth offered by DDR3 memory

GPU on the other hand pack many times higher processing power than CPU and hence we see the need for GDDR5 memory

Since on ps4 the memory is shared they have to use GDDR5 because even though the AMD cpu will run just fine on ddr3 the AMD gpu will be bottlenecked

Shared memory has distint advantages as there are scenarios where VRAM on our gpu runs out eg BF3 kill 1GB while Crysis3 on max easily kills 2gb

In these cases even though u may have 8gb system ram the GPU cannot use it.

Drawback of shared memory is the high cost of GDDR5
Meaning 4Gb DDR3 + 4GB GDDR5 is quite a bit cheaper

@K3yser: It will indeed catch-up but let's hope that it catches up in getting same quality games as consoles as well :p

No PC exclusive has even won GOTY title ever since this trend started this generation.
Re: pc console; yar youre gonna be spending big big dough on new consoles right? Its your right to have exclusivity for a definite period.

Re: quality; dont even get me started on that one. I was thinking abt starting a thread on this discussion I was having with a friend abt how theres couple of trends in the gaming market right now; The mobile gaming thing (from psp to cellphones), the hardcore console scene, and the PC scene. throw in that the kid friendly pedestrian Wii etc and you have yourself a hodgepodge with EVERY market leader deeming THEIR own approach the future... trouble with mobile gaming is, as fun and convenient it is, its NOT gaming as WE gamers know it. Consoles are trying to literally reinvent the wheel by talking abt integrating tv and internet and music and sexy Lawn Signboards in their OS or whatever,... meanwhile PC game makers play the super passive aggressive boyfriends by making and releasing sub-standard, shitty DRM monstrocities :/

Some needs to hit reset.

LoL , Srsly wut dafuq has the world intelligence gone ?!?!?!?!?!?!
Is Sony that dumb? Is Sony just another Activision company?
IS THIS TRUE?
even my PC has 7GB RAM , does that make my pc the upcoming future product in the 2070 .

You guys need to read more about AMD APUs. They benefit from RAM speeds/bandwidth A LOT MORE than the Intel 2nd or 3rd gen. CPUs. This doesn't mean it's going to outshine an expensive "Gaming PC" but something you need to realize before making an statement. And like CT said, Console can utilize hardware much efficiently then the PC therefore it's wise to say even HD 7850 like graphics card is going to give performance of a 7870 if not 7950.

^ Well said. (y)

There's also a misconception among people here that the Jaguar doesn't compare favorably against the Piledriver core used in Trinity APUs, whereas the truth is that, in terms of IPC, both CPUs are in the same ballpark. In fact, at low clocks, Piledriver needs more power and more chip area to reach performance that is similar to the Jaguar. Therefore, a Jaguar core has better performance per watt.

And that's just when talking about AMD's own version of the Jaguar. Sony's own engineering has gone into the PS4's APU, and it is a custom design.

Apart from some minor enhancements I don't think Piledriver and Jaguar are much different, but yeah Jaguar does perform a bit better. I'm just waiting to see how well the custom APU in the PS4 performs, according to PC standards it's more of a mid-range APU. But then again, console will utilize the hardware better than the PC ever will.

The best part about consoles is the optimization. They try to squeeze every bit of performance outta the given hardware. As opposed to the PC scenario where developers don't give much attention to optimization as they should ! That is why consoles tend to have >5 year life cycle. I'd love to see a PC that can manage to play games at decent settings and frame rate 4 5 years after being put together.

If you build a decent rig, then it would easily last that long without much of a problem. And with PC's, you choose at what settings you wanna run a game at, with consoles, it's just plug and play without knowing whether the game is taking the max use of the console hardware or not, so in other words, you're actually wrong. In the end, you get a much better gaming experience on a PC.

Very true. Fixed hardware and a lower-level API yield far greater utilization.

There's absolutely no way a Core2Duo PC paired with a 7800GT or X1950 XT can pull off anywhere close to the kind of stuff developers have achieved with the PS3 or X360. The same goes for other consoles from past generations.

Decent rig being an investment of upwards of 60k for a long life, which is not an option for everyone. I myself after wasting alot of money on PC switched to console only becuase with a console one doesn't have to worry about whether I'll be able to play a certain game or not, are my spcs good enough or not, although to be fair I do admit that console graphics aren't upto par with PC graphics especially as time progressed on but considering the money factor, energy wastage I simply swithced to console.
Regarding your second point the devs have to get the maximum out of the old closed hardware otherwise consoles wouldn't have been able to run eg Crysis 3 and other games, it's a 7/8 year old hardware they HAVE to optimize the crap out of it.
