The co-founder and CTO of Avalanche Studios, Linus Bloomberg showed his excitement and optimism about Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 4 which was announced during last month in Sony’s NY event. But many would consider his optimism as over-confidence as he said that it will out-power most PCs for years to come.
During an interview which he gave on Game Bolt, he admitted that consoles desperately need a boost as it has been overtaken in terms of PCs performance many years ago and also seem to be loosing its foothold further all thanks to mobile platforms.He added,“It’s a perfect fit for the types of games we do, and we are confident that we’ll bring open-world gaming to a whole new level because of it. I’m glad Sony decided to go with 8GB RAM because it means that the PS4 will out-power most PC’s for years to come.”

i think he is talking about the integrated gpu that intel use or those low end dedicated cards like gf 610 any how its better for pc gamers coz this time around they will port games to console`s. we should see some better games that will actually use pc hardware more seriously.
pc hardware will always be on the bleeding and and far beyond what ever they put in consoles.
the jaguar soc that has been used in ps4. amd will release it for it for consumers sometime next year for pc builders aswell with some modifications.
but still if ps4 is under 400 dollers mark at release. it will be a comparative to a gaming pc budget machine.

Not really, the software API (DirectX) is still the primary hurdle in the way of PC hardware utilization.

the ps3 gpu based on something inbetween a 7770 and a 7850. plus the 8 core jaguar amd cpu. Combination seems good but no way it can match a typical core i5 + 7970 / gtx 670 . And if the console is for more than 500$ , why wud anyone be bothered to buy it :/ i wud rather get a gtx 680 which wud piss on the ps4 / xbox

I think a 400$(most probable price) ps4 wil be more powerful than a 400$ gaming pc (including all stuff beside LCD)

A 500-1000$ gaming pc can never be beaten by any console and that is true.

So PC gaming FTW.

The RAM in modern gaming PCs is already equal or higher than 8GB, which is shared between the CPU/GPU on the PS4. The difference is that it's DDR3 RAM, whereas the PS4's is GDDR5. In the future, it's possible that there will be PC motherboards that support DDR5 RAM as system memory, but it's not happening at the moment.

Of course, when talking about raw computational power, as [MENTION=4177]Wajhi[/MENTION] said, it is already greater on PC hardware of today, let alone tomorrow. One can't expect a $400 machine to match a PC, where the GPU alone can potentially cost the same or over twice as much.

Sony is just making hype using its 8gb Ram. We all know RAM is one of the cheapest components of a Pc. I dont think a 8gb DDR5 RaM can really outperform 32gb ddr3 RAM. This type of marketing will only impress fools really .
I really hope Ps4 handles BF4 64 players well.

When it comes to games development, it's not as much about the size of RAM as it is about the bandwidth. Of course, high-end PC GPUs already have up to 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM (with higher bandwidth), so it doesn't give the PS4 an edge in this area.

I really hope Ps4 handles BF4 64 players well.

I'm pretty sure it can at 1080p/30fps, but if it does so at 60fps it would be positively surprising. DICE is rumored to show the PS4 version at the upcoming reveal on the 26th. Let's see how that goes.

hey I get the DDR3/5 debate going on right now... even in PC GPUs these days sporting ddr5 rams, ive read most of todays machines cant take advantage of it. Its just progress, scalability favors PC,,,

BUT

Sony/Ms have to make sure they can throw a hail mary far enough for PC to take atleast a year or two to catch up. Rest assured it will catch up.
