This might turn out to be an excellent game. But if I'm honest, personally I would have preferred announcement of a new game in Witcher series.

A lot of Deus Ex vibes. This could be good. I've HAD it with medieval settings

You haven't even played THEIR game with medieval settings :p. Play Witcher 1and 2 and you might change your opinion.

It's like there are 3rd person shooters, and THEN there is UNCHARTED.Similarly, there are games with medieval settings, and THEN there is Witcher.

Thats inevitable though, isn't it? Besides, a different team is working on this so its likely that Witcher 3 is already under development.

A few more details regarding the game.

CD Projekt Red has opened up to offer the first new details on its new 'Cyberpunk' RPG game since its announcement in May.

The developer's community manager Marcin Momot talked up the game's custom player options and diversive plot, promising "way more freedom with customization of the main protagonist" than in The Witcher games.

"As opposed to the regular fantasy set-up with mages, warriors and archers, we're going for something different," said Momot. "In Cyberpunk, each character role will offer a set of special skills that will impact your stats in many different ways. That's where the challenge kicks in, we want to create a game where character customization will be strongly tied with the plot. Now going from that, we believe that we can make a game where, with many different role choices, you will get a very strong, engaging story, just like it was with The Witcher."

He went on to say, "We definitely want to give players way more freedom with customization of the main protagonist then they had with Geralt in The Witcher series. We are planning on letting them change their statistics, equipment, implants and much more."

Freedom, it seems, won't just be an attribute of the character customization, but of the open world, too. "Cyberpunk's story takes place all over the world, but we're going to focus on it's most characteristic venue - Night City. One thing is certain, we want to make a game with an open, living world that stays true to the source material," said Momot.

A recent CDPR job ad appeared to confirm multiplayer gameplay for at least one of its two in-development RPGs, but the firm has played down the 'multiplayer programmer' recruitment as R&D.

Karachi.
Great. If it has an awesome story and great visuals like that in W2, I dont see why this should not be a hit!

It needs more screenshots to further up the hype.

It won't be that easy to compete against Deus Ex: Human Revolution, that game is the current standard bearer for Cyber punk RPGs.For this gen atleast.

^Amongst their influences are games like the original Deus Ex and other hardcore RPGs like System Shock. CDPR can potentially surpass that standard and set a new one as far as cyberpunk RPGs are concerned. This looks like a very ambitious project.

CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 - official site, development blog Initiated

Press Release:

Warsaw, 18 October 2012 – CD Projekt RED has officially announced the title of its in-development role-playing game. "Cyberpunk 2077" will be set in the world created by Mike Pondsmith, one of the fathers of the cyberpunk genre and the creator of the cult-classic pen-and-paper RPG, Cyberpunk.

"The Team has to love the material. The Team has to want to be faithful to the material. The Team has to have the skills to execute the material and see that vision through to the end. They have to be on fire with the desire to make an extraordinary game.

And that leads, at last, to why we hooked up with CD Projekt RED" – Mike Pondsmith commented, why he has chosen to work with the Polish game developer.

The cyberpunk atmosphere, well known from William Gibson's novels, the "Blade Runner" movie and the famous pen-and-paper game, "Cyberpunk 2020", will surround the player. The creators promise that "Cyberpunk 2077" will be true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre. Players will be thrown into the dark future of the year 2077 and into a world where advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity. A multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players (a CD Projekt RED trademark) will take place in the sprawling metropolis of Night City and its surroundings. Players will have a chance to visit places well known from "Cyberpunk 2020", including a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, the legendary Afterlife joint and the nostalgic Forlorn Hope.

Freedom of action and diversity in gameplay will be delivered thanks to the sandbox nature of the game and mechanics inspired by the "Cyberpunk 2020" pen-and-paper system, fine tuned to meet the requirements of a modern RPG. Gameplay will pump adrenaline through players' veins and be consistent with the celebrated Cyberpunk spirit – rebellion, style, edge, uncertainty. And of course, a cyberpunk reality cannot be deprived of murderous steel – guns, rifles, implants, dozens of gadgets and other varied pieces of equipment needed to survive on the streets of Night City. The developers are focused on making the technology of 2077 credible and exciting.

For more info please visit the newly launched blog: cyberpunk.net and read some articles written by both the developers from CD Projekt RED and Mike Pondsmith himself.

Finally CD release information on their latest project. Maybe it would be released in 2014 or 2015...
2015 for sure because they released Witcher 2 after 4 years of Witcher. I hope they make it truly open world RPG. Not like Witcher 2 where you just travel in 3 small towns in the whole game.

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
