[h=1]‘Arrow’ Casts Vinnie Jones as ‘Brick’; ‘Flash’ Adds News Character[/h]

With the entirety of the DC Comics catalogue at their disposal, the showrunners of Arrow and The Flash are wasting no time in bringing them to their shared universe. And to do it, they’re calling on Vinnie Jones (X-Men: The Last Stand) – specifically, playing the invulnerable crime kingpin of Starling City, and foe of Oliver Queen’s vigilante persona.

It’s safe to assume that some aspects of Danny ‘Brick’ Brickwell’s character will be removed, as the show’s writers have made their position on superpowers in Arrow Season 3 fairly clear. Although blessed with invulnerable brick-like skin in the comics, Variety reports Vinnie Jones’ version will be “a ruthless gang leader who brings Star City’s government to its knees,” with his nickname not referencing his flesh, but the fact that he’s “been shot dozens of times but never put down.”

With the crime boss’ name appearing on Oliver Queen’s famous ‘list’ of Starling’s enemies in Arrow‘s first season, fans will be pleased to see him finally arrive in the flesh. With a three-episode arc confirmed, it seems Brickwell will provide just one of the several confrontations Oliver (Stephen Amell) will have to endure – including The Flash. And having made his name by portraying intimidating, physically-imposing figures, Jones will certainly give the vigilante an entertaining fight.

On The Flash side of The CW’s DC universe, the show’s writers have crafted a genuinely new character to add some drama – and guidance. With Episode 2 hinting at Iris’ future career (introduced as a reporter in the original comics), the show has added Roger Howarth (General Hospital, One Life To Live) in the role of ‘Mason Bridge,’ described by Deadline as “an award-winning reporter from the Central City Picture News.”

With Iris West (Candice Patton) poised to turn her interest in Central City’s mysterious ‘red streak’ into a career in investigative journalism (or blogging), it’s Mason Bridge who will be overseeing her entry into CCPN. While the role might seem a necessary one (along with an easter egg for fans, as Mason Trollbridge was a supporting character in Wally West’s comic run) it also implies a few upcoming subplots.

As an investigative reporter himself, Bridge apparently has suspicions about S.T.A.R. Labs’ Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh). It’s fair to say that any viewers have their own suspicions about the mysterious genius, but it’s unclear what story Bridge will be pursuing. It was only a matter of time before Dr. Wells’ motivations were explored, since even his actions following the particle accelerator incident have yet to be detailed.

It seems odd that more people haven’t already been investigating the disaster, given the sudden emergence of metahumans in its wake. If Bridge is the first, then his listing as a ‘recurring’ character may be in jeopardy; so far, those who stand against Dr. Wells’ pursuits tend to wind up on the losing side – and fast.

But an award-winning reporter might be the kind of weight needed to find out what’s really behind ‘the red streak.’
The Flash airs Tuesdays @8pm on The CW., with Arrow airing Wednesdays @8pm.

Bump!
So who's been keeping up with the show?
Spoiler: show
How did Malcolm Merlyn so easily appeared in a public place in Starling City? Remember when he was wanted by the authorities since Moira Queen revealed his plan to destroy the glades moments before it happened? And he was presumed dead after that incident so how come he was so easily there. Anyone could easily spot him

Yeah, that's a loophole. The show seems to be doing away with logic and reasoning of late, expecting fans to still continue watching with the same eagerness.

Well, I doubt anyone is looking for Malcolm since he is dead to the public.

Its not about whether people are looking for him or not. He was a billionaire and the CEO of Merlyn Global. One the prominent citizens of the city. I'm sure even a normal citizen in Starling knows him pretty well. He met Oliver at a public and crowded place. There were so many people around him. And he showed up so easily without even wearing a hat or something to conceal his identity.

Come on man. In a series where Hero becomes invisible after wearing a hood to the extent that even his mom can't recognize him, why would you worry about the identity of anyone?

I expected him to look much older. Somehow, this guy did not look at all imposing to me as Raas Al Ghul. I suppose he could surprise me with his acting in the future, let's see.

[h=1]Brandon Routh Teases The Atom Coming To ‘Arrow’?[/h]

Over the past three seasons, Arrow has introduced a number of comic book goodies and baddies to the small screen, and yet only Deathstroke has displayed any super-powered abilities. At a Q&A last month, showrunner Marc Guggenheim even told reporters, “With ‘The Flash’ in existence, there’s no real compelling reason for us to do super powers on ‘Arrow.’ “ Thus indicating that Ray Palmer’s alter-ego, The Atom, would not be using his shrinking abilities on the show.

But that doesn’t mean that The Atom won’t show up in some capacity before season 3 is over. In fact, earlier this year while filming episode 6, Routh made some noise when he told fans he’d actually already seen concept drawings of The Atom’s costume. At the time, Routh wasn’t sure when exactly he’d get to suit up, but it looks like that moment is getting closer.

a new tweet today for episode 11, titled “Midnight City,” Routh teased a picture of himself getting a plaster mold made of his face. In the past, having to sit for hours while this is done has meant someone is getting fitted for a mask. And so, just like Roy Harper and Laurel Lance before him, it’s possible Ray Palmer will soon be donning a superhero costume all his own.

Check out the tweet:

Despite Arrow‘s showrunner indicating that there won’t be any superpowers on the series, it seems the writers do have ideas in mind for The Atom. Guggenheim also said at the Q&A: “We have plans for Ray that don’t involve shrinking, but our plans for Ray are actually really cool.” If the character descriptions for this season are any indication, then The Atom will turn out to “harbor a tragic past that is a catalyst for him becoming a tech-powered superhero.”

In the comics, Ray Palmer was a physicist specializing in matter compression, so being a tech-powered superhero isn’t too much of a stretch if the writers of Arrow are planning to keep his character more realistic. And Palmer asking Felicity to recover those blueprints two weeks ago from a hard drive only gives more credence to the idea that Palmer is interested in advanced weaponry. We’ve only just started to scratch the surface of this new mysterious character.

But what do you think, Screen Rant readers? Do you like the idea of The Atom based in tech and not otherworldly elements? Are you excited to see another costumed superhero make an appearance?

Arrow airs Wednesdays @8pm on The CW. The Flash airs Tuesdays @8pm.

‘Arrow’: Deathstroke Will Return in Season 3

Between trips to Central City and dealing with overly-devoted fans, season 3 of Arrow has largely focused on the death of a major player as well as the subsequent mystery of who killed said character. Previous seasons of the CW’s superhero drama revolved around certain villains: the Dark Archer in season 1, Deathstroke in season 2, and season 3 will see the introduction of Ra’s al Ghul. While the Dark Archer has already returned to Starling City, Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke (Manu Bennett) has been missing from the series since his defeat in last season’s finale.

Deathstroke’s absence is, of course, the result of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) locking up the villain in an ARGUS supermax prison on the island of Lian Yu. Although it’s unclear if Deathstroke will make good on his threat to escape the prison, it has been confirmed that Bennett kept his promise of returning to Arrow.

MTV is reporting that Bennett will reprise his role as Wilson/Deathstroke and appear in episode 14, after the show’s midseason break. However, it wasn’t specified whether Wilson will be featured in Arrow’s present-day storyline or flashbacks of the show.

In the season 2 finale, Wilson promised Oliver he would escape from the ARGUS prison – despite having been cured of his Mirakuru-fueled strength. But that may not necessarily be the manner by which Wilson returns to Arrow. He could appear in flashbacks or Oliver could visit the villain on Lian Yu. Or, since Arrow has already established a group of criminal operatives under Amanda Waller’s command (the Suicide Squad), Wilson could return as a part of the ARGUS team.

Since Arrow’s season 2 episode “Suicide Squad” was announced, rumors of a spinoff have circulated. The president of the The CW even added fuel to the fire when he said more spinoffs – in addition to The Flash – are being “discussed.” Should Wilson return to Arrow as a part of the Suicide Squad, it may add more credence to the possibility of the team getting its own series.

However, Warner Bros. and DC are currently developing their own big screen incarnation of the Suicide Squad along with some A-list talent. Although that doesn’t necessarily mean The CW wouldn’t consider a series based on the team, especially since Arrow has already done the groundwork, it does complicate things.

That being said, it’s still unclear in what fashion Bennett will return to Arrow in episode 14. He may still be locked in the ARGUS prison on Lian Yu without a clue as to Waller’s team of operatives, or he may return in another capacity.

Arrow continues on December 3rd with “The Brave and the Bold” @8PM on The CW.
