Scorpio would need to bring nearly all of the 3rd party AAA games of this generation + rebuild their 1st party lineup + have exclusives (not on pc)

It would be interesting to see the trend here on, whether consoles gamers would take the PC esque road towards high powered hardware iterations that could perform better or would stick to console exclusives games to guide their purchase.

I am actually confused atm. The attraction to buy a high powered console that could play games(multi platform) better than the PS4 PRO is there, but the final decision would obviously depend on how much marginal difference is there in terms of performance compared to the ps4 Pro.

Still the big issue for MS is the weak First Party exclusive line. Which itself is available on PC too.

There is, but then the real test would be whether MS are able to secure all those third party console exclusives Sony keeps getting. Yakuza, Persona, hell.. Death Standing, practically all of Japan, are all not coming to Xbox. They're all more likely to get PC ports than Xbox ports.

I mistakenly wrote First Party. I was actually implying exactly what you said with games like Yakuza , Nier, Street Fighter etc not being on the Xbone. But i dont see that trend changing anytime soon *cough* Scalebound. As for Japan, they fucking hate XBOX, MS just replies in kind. :p

On paper, the Scorpio is absolutely more powerful than a PS4 Pro. A tech demo of Forza was shown running at native 4k and solid 60fps which provides a glimpse of what this console can do.

But the real question still stands as to what MS is doing for exclusivity. If its only for multi-plat games, the switch from Pro to Scorpio seems reasonable.

Literally all of it comes down to the games now. Even if it's priced at $499, which it likely will be, I can see myself buying it next year if I see MS getting good games on it.

The hype in the 5 minutes leading to its reveal was surreal though. Gaf was fire.

but the question is..IF the games on PC and Xbox are still going to be the same, how many people would shell out 500$ for an Xbox, when their existing PCs can play the same games..At this point Xbox becomes a steam machine, and look at what happened to those..IMO Xbox still NEEDS to have exclusive games only available on console

Only an enthusiast PC gamer with cash to spare will ever go for Scorpio. For them, there's barely any need to get this console. At this time however, I'm simply enjoying the lack of any sort of attention span being exhibited by most of the internet on gaf right now lol. The hysterics are out in full force.

ohh man MS boasts delivered on track this time :) haha

and as for the price its for the premium users, so expect 500$ plus price for this easy guys

[h=1]Project Scorpio is being made for the ‘premium customer,’ Microsoft says[/h]

[h=2]The console’s specs are here[/h]

Microsoft When Microsoft went into the designing stage for its upcoming Project Scorpio, one of the company’s goals was to make a more powerful machine than the PlayStation 4 Pro and create a system for the “gamer that expects the absolute best versions of the game.”
Mike Ybarra, corporate vice president of the Xbox and Windows gaming platform at Microsoft, sat down with Digital Foundry for an in-depth look at Project Scorpio and what it was capable of. The console’s specs were among some of the information revealed, including eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz, a 1TB 2.5-inch hard drive and a UHD Blu-ray drive. Ybarra said it was all part of an initiative to get the most powerful games into the hands of core Xbox gamers.
“When we see consumers tell us they want 'the latest technology, the latest experience, the best experience more frequently' to our traditional console business that doesn't really align with that, you have to pause, you have to take some pretty big risks,” Ybarra said. “We're taking that big risk to release something we know consumers want.”
It’s not just consumers that Microsoft is trying to win over with Project Scorpio, either. Ybarra said another main goal for the company was to win back the hearts of developers. When the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launched in 2013, developers were far more taken with the power of the former console, according to Digital Foundry. Microsoft is looking to reverse that with Project Scorpio, according to Ybarra.

“We have to win the hearts and minds of developers," Ybarra said. "We have to have the right toolset that lets them bring out their games across the whole family of products and let them create the absolute best versions of those games."
Despite releasing the specs, there’s still a ton of information we don’t know about the console. We don’t know when it’s going to be released exactly, we don’t know what it looks like and, perhaps most importantly, we don’t know how much it’s going to cost. Digital Foundry is estimating that Scorpio will be on the high end, releasing for approximately $499 upon launch — the same as the Xbox One when it was first released.
More information about the Scorpio is expected to be released in the coming months, including at this year’s E3 taking place in June.

well scorpio is focusing on true 4K which itself is luxury standard for games. also a 500$ PC doesn't even come close to what is being promised by MS's new console here. my rough estimates put an equivalent PC solution at atleast 800$ (1000$ for brand new build). so yeah i can see people buying the 500$ premium console even if the exclusives are play anywhere titles only. what MS needs now is exclusives that score well compared to the competition.

no doubt it will be great..but two major things in these assumption is that it will release "soonish" and "500$" price point, both of which no one knows.

The irony that the very same console gamers used to lambast PC gamers for upgrading their PCs over short periods of time. And now, the very same thing is happening to them, periodic console revisions

^This. People who already own a PC won't find much of a reason to shift to Scorpio if MS doesn't offer drool worthy exclusives. On the other hand, PS4 has games like Horizon, Last of Us, Days Gone, God of War which really tempts the gamers to opt for the Sony console.

I want MS to bring really good console exclusives to their platform. A healthy compeition between Sony and Microsoft will be beneficial to us consumers.

If Microsoft only wanted PC gamers with capable rigs to purchase Xbox why would they make their exclusives available on PC? Its the opposite infact, where Sony and MS have realized how outdated the consoles get within 2-3 years so mid-gen refresh approach will not tempt people to build PCs.

MS never promised native 4K for all games on Scorpio. The only performance profile we have of Scorpio right now is of Forza 6 hitting 4K60 (its a 1080p60fps game even on XB1). A $230 RX 480 on PC can do native 4K60 on Ultra/High graphics (Scorpio GPU is slightly better than that). Not that shocking to be honest.

I never said Ms wont target Sony.

I think cause everyone already has a PC..If you are a gamer, there is decent chance that you have a semi capable PC..

Now would you go for the consoles which offers EXACTLY the same games, or the one which has exclusives ?

This is why I think MS really needs to trust in its first party devs and some xbox exclusive hits.

phil spencer himself once said that they don't want to price it unreasonably
Do you really expect Phil to say anything else ?

Would he say " oh no, we are going to sell it at unreasonably high price point ?"

I really wish , for the sake of competition and from stopping Sony getting complacent that they can market it with competitive price point

Again..I wish it makes it, but gaming is perhaps the field with most "delayed" products. Guess we will find out on E3.

Never promised native 4k across the board but they are very vocal abt hitting that target with most games specially first party exclusives. There were no such indications by Sony for PS4 pro.
Forza was hitting 4k60fps with just 68% GPU utilization. That means something imo.
