This is usually caused by faulty driver. Try reinstall the driver or default windows driver for WIFI device.

Next time it happens, note the Time. And on the next startup, inspect the "Event Viewer". (Check the Windows Logs > System)

Event Viewer collects all the details of whatever event is happening inside your PC.

DietyDevil! Your best bet would be to download the ISO of Windows 8.1 w/ Update 1, and install through that. Don't worry, you'll still be offered a choice if you wanted to save all your installed apps.

You can download it from MDL (My Digital Life) Forums. There is a repository there for Windows 8.1 and so on.

I have got weird problem, Icons for modern applications are not being displayed in task bar (It is just transparent). Plus newly installed apps does not have any icon in Start menu. :(

Anybody have any clue to solve or find cause of this issue? (sm1)

mubaidr! Clear your thumbnail cache perhaps. It happens sometimes when 1) Your Local Profile has become corrupt 2) Your thumbnail cache has become corrupt.

Either use CCleaner for that purpose, or by going to Proper > Cleanup of your C: Drive.

Tried clearing thumbnail cache using ccleaner ( and diskcleanup), but of no good!

Icons display fine in startmenu, when i pin application to taskbar, there is no icon, just a transparent placeholder. :(

I am out of ideas.

Try the following:
- Turn OFF (and then back ON) the feature to Pin Modern Apps on Taskbar. Right Click on Taskbar > Properties > Show Windows Store apps on Taskbar
- Make a new profile (a local one) and see if you face similar issue in that profile. If you do, then i assume its a problem with Windows.
- Rebuild Icon Cache. Look here: Rebuild the Icon cache in Windows 7 | 8
- Try to Reset Windows Store cache: Clear & Reset Windows Store Cache in Windows 8 | 8.1 (Usually its for Store's own issue, but it might work for its related icons as well)

Thanks for the input, i am going to try these suggestions! (BTW i already tried using Microsoft troubleshooter for modern apps which also reset Windows Store cache)

I've been facing the strangest problem for like 3 days now. Running windows 8.1 x64 with latest updates.
My laptop just slows down. A lot. The cpu usage/ Mem usage/ HD usage all are normal during that time. But everything still becomes dead slow.
I've tried reinstalling windows as well.
Whenever I face this problem, I just restart my laptop. It usually fixes it.

frazgta! It might be scheduled maintenance slowing your system down.

OR if you could describe your issue a bit more thoroughly.
