Just watched a video on YT regarding the ban of unregistered phones on 31st October.
My brother bought an iPhone 6 about 2 years ago from olx. How to check if the phone is registered or not?

99% iPhones in Pakistan are unregistered.

Contact PTA with your IMEI number.

Pta is banning unregistered phones
Because suppliers smuggles them
Its causing pta huge loss in form of registration fee or taxes.

Pta should start registering the phones with a fixed or variable fee depending upon phone's value.

A phone like the category of One Plus 5 taxed around 4K. Since you are not importing phone officially so pta might charge only a registration fee but nothing confirm yet. PTA will make process public soon. No body knows anything confirm yet.

i don't think it will be easy for PTA to ban all the phones there must be millions of smartphones in Pakistan which are not registered by PTA.

Even government officials don't have PTA certified phones, so PTA should stop starting these stupid campaigns and focus on addressing complaints against all the 3rd class ISPs we have in this country.

This kind of crap is a dumb and easy way to get more money out of us, nobody understands why, they'll just throw money at them to ensure their phones work fine.

However, I wouldn't be too worried, the mobile networks here might throw a fit because they'll have to gather IMEIs for every single non registered phone and hand them over to PTA, that will
1) Take forever
2) Possibly not even happen since the networks might not agree to it

So I guess there's nothing to worry about.

PTA has purchased an expensive software for this. And whole exercise is being done on the demand of security agencies. They might register old phones free to bring them in network. And for future users have to pay for imported phones.

Gathering IMEI's of current phones won't be an issue. Telcos already have that data, a matter of just running a query and voila

p.s This WILL happen no matter what. Maybe, as [MENTION=136639]zafarabbasrizvi[/MENTION] said, all existing phones might get a pass on this but future phones will have to be registered.

So if a pakistani who works abroad, buys a cellphone there and comes back to spend holidays with his family will either have to pay to register his phone's IMEI with PTA to make his phone work or buy a new phone here (lmao)

He probably have to show his passport. Or PTA might make a short term NOC for foreigners.

I sincerely hope this never comes into place. Even if it does, I hope there is an ONLINE system to do this easily, convenient and more importantly ... QUICKLY.

NO ONE would want to stand in lines, fill up needless forms, or other stupid things just to get their phones work.

A bunch of incompetent morons running PTA. Ptff...
