Looks like Sony x Epic will be extending and increasing in scope for the coming gen. The demo was captured on an early PS5 console (maybe they meant dev kit ?)

Moreover, this is a tech demo. Of course console games will have baked lighting in places where it suits them.

Someone who argues the same over the use of dynamic lighting as opposed to preferring baked lighting... yeah...crows have been served. No baked lighting found here :lol:

Nope, never said that about conventional GI techniques. Ray-traced GI is a waste of resources. Dynamic GI has literally been used in open world PS4/XBO games. It's nothing new per say.

Your argument is only strengthening my case :lol:

So, the demo is "about" 1440p/30. Not hitting native 1440p all the time.

"Interestingly, it does work very well with our dynamic resolution technique as well," adds Penwarden. "So, when GPU load gets high we can lower the screen resolution a bit and then we can adapt to that. In the demo we actually did use dynamic resolution, although it ends up rendering at about 1440p most of the time."

Regardless, no one should expect universal 4K on PS5/XBSX outside of the first few years of cross-gen games. Then you factor in Ray Tracing which brings the strongest commercial GPUs available right now to its knees at 1080p/60.

Has that been confirmed? In all honesty, expecting a big leap in visual fidelity AND native 4K res from a $400-$500 machine is quite unreasonable.

I'm hoping for devs to push physics, AI, and graphics and then worry about resolution. Anything above 1080p + VRS + dynamic res + CBR or a machine learning driven scaling technique is good enough for me. If people expect better, they're better off upgrading or building a PC.

This is the exact quote from the article:

The "early PS5 console" wording is a bit weird and I assume they mean an early devkit. If this demo is running on an early hardware revision, and we can assume the engine will go through a lot of optimization as well. We will probably see graphical quality exceeding this demo on the retail consoles after an year or two.


This is the UE4 PS4 tech demo Epic put out in 2013, I think it's safe to say we saw games on PS4 which visually looked better than this.

I don't like them setting the standard at 30 fps. Give me 1080p but give me 60 fps this time.
30fps is the console standard for most single-player games. Here's someone who, despite getting it, still got a console to play single-player games :lol:

You may see options to lower the resolution to get higher frame rates in GPU intensive games. However, you will see most multi-player games targeting 60fps next-gen.

It is a next-gen demo and I don't see what is so next-gen about 30 fps. It felt like Epic telling console gamers, "tum sala ghulam log 30 fps pe he rahay ga". [emoji14]

I sure hope this doesn't become a next-gen standard, even for single player games. The least I would expect is an option to switch to 60 fps in every game, even if devs target 30 fps and a higher resolution as a default.

    Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.
