Try assigning your Mac a fixed IP from the DHCP settings.

Also, does wired work any better?

Could it be that your DNS is playing up? (Just a thought)

Assigning a static IP is the first thing I did when I got the new router but then I started having problems so I thought that they were caused by the static IP and I removed it but it didn't solve anything.

Tried google dns and the default dns but both were having the same problems. Also I wouldn't time out while pinging my router if the problem was caused by the DNS.

Cant use a wired connection because Macbook air doesn't have an ethernet port.

100 Mbps on VDSL is subject to approval from exchange manager.

First they will give you a 50 Mbps line and monitor the stability and line stats, if it's possible to get 100 without disconnections, they will upgrade you.

adsl vdsl only and when i asked for gpon people at exchange said you can install dedicated 1mb fiber for 10k and also told me people here come fight us for 100rps increase in bill and you are asking for gpon in this area it is not possible
right compartment of msag for copper MDF middle area is for subscriber cards and fiber link left side was for batteries i think

I just spoke to their helpline because the speeds weren't upgrading - judging from their SMS, it seemed we could upgrade our speeds for 5 days for free, but that's not the case. The speeds are apparently effective Jan 1. And the SMS says the existing 20Mbps package will cost 3200/month.

So - some trickery going on here. 20Mbps price being raised to 3200/month. 25Mbps ALSO costs 3200/month. Both packages have the same facility/features - but you have to call them to upgrade your speeds (otherwise you'll be on the slower speeds package).

Exactly, even Mobily in KSA upgraded my father's connection from 25mbps to 100mbps for free and informed him via a message. He did not even make any requests for the upgrade and did not intervene at all. PTCL sends every single due bills message twice but sent this message only once.

Edit: Called 1218 for the free upgrade and after 10 minutes on hold they told me that there is no such 25mb package even after I told them that i received this free upgrade message. How pathetic can PTCL customer service be? Theek hai agr speed nhi barhani thi phir fazool ka message kyun krtay hain ye log?

Contacted them through live chat and that agent had knowledge about the 25mb package and he placed the order but the guy on 1218 was totally clueless about it.

You can also look for a used TP-Link TD-W8980 v1. I am using one with ADSL2+ and got it for 2200 from olx. I installed OpenWrt on it and now it supports both ADSL and VDSL with that software.
