Well I have some series of doubts on Jazz 3G on 900 MHz. But first thing first

Is it technically possible to launch 3G on 900 MHz by Jazz? Well Yes if they do want to renew Warid's spectrum. Otherwise No.

And if they are going to renew Warid's spectrum than why didn't they launched 4G on 20 MHz? Or why they aren't using 1800 MHz for 2G? Don't they have 24.8 MHz in this block?

All those guys getting 900 MHz 3G can they check if 2G on 1800 MHz is available there as well or not? Because Jazz cannot put its whole 2G on 4.8 MHz of 900 MHz. Can they? murtaza12 shaheerk ??

I'm wondering about the same thing, zafarabbasrizvi - they did manage to run 2G on 900Mhz, and stopped using 1800Mhz for quite a long while. If they'll offload everyone to 1800Mhz, then it might be doable.

Also, 2G doesn't require a lot of spectrum vs. 3G (but it also caters to more users, generally speaking, than 2G).

In any case they will require to renew Warid's spectrum which is highly unlikely because of following reasons

10 MHz 3G is enough because load is going to shift to 4G in near future.

They will need a lot of investment to expand 4G coverage so they will not invest further on spectrum when they already spent a huge amount for 4G spectrum.

And who knows Govt auction 5G spectrum in 3-4 years.

At least we're all learning and sharing my knowledge and experience with others around here. Band locking and what-not helps us learn and troubleshoot, as well as find out potential issues...which would help us learn how to overcome these hurdles.

You, on the other hand, have just been complaining since... Hmmm... since the Wired Pakistan days, perhaps?

Yes, I remember you've been using Zong since then, but refuse to switch networks (but moan about Zong). And if network switching isn't an option, then get used to it! Or just use DSL/fiber. If that's not even available, then move your 4G device next to the window and away from metal grills. But are you willing to do any of that? No, because your next post won't be any - and then you'll just come back up again like a troll and start complaining.

It gets old after several years, khan1. If you don't have anything to contribute positively, then let the others continue their discussions. At least we're trying to work towards a common goal - increased knowledge.

What's your goal?

Can someone please confirm/check if the Cap has been removed on speeds above 8Mbps on Jazz 3G?

Spoiler: show

Spoiler: show

I have been getting above speeds today. It shows about 18Mbps but I have touched 24 Mbps on IDM.

You're lucky you're finding spots with DC-HSPA+ - I stopped testing 3G because more and more locations were not giving me DC-level speeds... even on postpaid.

Yeah sorry guys that was rude of me.Actually CSR zong told me to restart handset and take out the battery and then switch it on and he hung up the call.I was furious and it was weekend so .... thanks guys, its because of you - people like me are getting familiar with bands and stuff. Can you share this tech with me that how do you pull out these mhz? let me do it on this zong and see what are they actually providing.
Shaheerk yeah man I do like you since wiredpak era.It got boring 3 years back and I didn't log it again.

What is up with PakGamers?! It's not letting me thank, nor reply to posts! murtaza12, it keeps giving me a pop-up saying "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing. If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error."

Anyway, khan1, it's actually refreshing for a person to admit their fault and apologize - that was rather fresh, so thank you for your mellow tone.

As for the Zong CSR - well - that's Pakistan. Not perfect, but when you don't train your staff well, this is what happens. Let's see what we can do to improve your situation:
- we know Zong has 10Mhz or 15Mhz deployed across Pakistan, right? Your upload speeds are fine (I remember back in the days your upload speeds were crap too), which means something has improved. BUT - could it be that the server you chose for conducting the speed test was under strain? I've actually noted this happens more frequently than never, and so, I use the Open Signal app to conduct a speed test - it takes a bit longer, but since it pulls the data from multiple sources, you won't be limited by the bandwidth of one server.
- You're using their MBB device, right? Can you try moving it closer to a window and see if it improves? I know for sure that 4G sucks indoors for Zong and Telenor, but Mobilink has done some voodoo and actually gives great speeds indoors - if you can get their signal (after the network upgrade). Try testing the device up on the roof of the house - if it improves there, then that means the radio waves entering your house are clashing/interfering/bouncing around and you won't get good signals indoors.

The keywork is indoors.

- Spectrum, to an extent, makes a difference. If your signal strength is horrid, an increase in the spectrum won't magically improve your download speeds - you need to have the signal to back up the performance... and I don't know how Mobilink is doing it, but they're doing it fairly well (wherever there's 4G signal). Telenor could have done something about it, but until those numbskulls implement carrier aggregation (joining two different frequencies for higher speeds - since different frequencies react differently), it won't help using them.

I remember you said that in different areas of Abbottabad, Zong worked fine but not where you lived, right? That's the same case with me - with both Zong and Mobilink (before the upgrade), I used to get 4G signals but the speeds were average because the signal quality wasn't great. After Mobilink's 4G upgrade, if I get the signals, the speeds are MUCH MUCH faster but the signals just don't enter my house anymore. Zong's 4G still comes, but it's not particularly fast. Telenor's signals are weak, and they work for basic browsing (not really useful for downloading). But when I'm outside of the house, everything is fine.

How come you can't change your network?

Devs are working on it. Using Tapatalk lets you like or thank posts but not on the web/desktop version.
Quoting and or adding a new line is buggy as well, should be fixed soon.

Bad move signing up for the shitty Veon app. I deleted it ages ago, but I get 3-4 annoying texts from them every day for some stupid free 25 MB shit that I don't want.

I always had this hunch to not go for this douchey app. It looked shit, sounded shit and now through your comment, I'm certain that it IS shit [emoji23]

Why can't these devs come up with something original for once? [emoji58] Oh I know, it's the $$$ factor that matters more.

I don't see why it's so hard for them to just launch a working eCare app and portal.

I guess a simple portal doesn't earn them enough $$$ as much as a shitty app such as Veon does with all its marketing gimmicks and stuff.

Also now that YouTube has enforced ads, almost every other video has the Veon ad, meaning, even if we don't install the app, we'll get tortured with such aggressive advertising [emoji58]

I took it up on Twitter, and dragged their CTO and CEO. Initially (before dragging the two in), I asked the Jazz Twitter handle if there's an app where we could monitor our usage in one central spot like Telenor, Zong and Warid (tagging them all).

(have you seen their website? It's incredibly unhelpful, and if you want to, as a prepaid user, want to know your data balances - you can't always do so, and if you can, you better remember the exact short code rather than use a common code like on postpaid - but I digress).

Warid replies, says there's no app but we can use the ecare website. Last I checked, it didn't work for me - but these guys keep advertising it (maybe it works for prepaid only?).

I then replied, dragged their CTO and CEO in, and said that it's incredibly silly given 2018 is around the corner... And asked the two if they even use their products as a normal consumer, and what they'd do except pull their hair out of their head.

I'm not expecting a reply, because - as you said - these guys just don't appear interested.

And when my employee package finishes, I'll probably port out. I want control over my usage and money - Mobilink doesn't give me that value for money, nor the control, despite being expensive.

Now I'm back to evaluating between Telenor and Zong. Telenor is cheap, and Zong's 4G is alright if you're next to the tower - else it's just as good or bad as Telenor's, in my brief testing in Gulrez today.

In fact, oddly, Telenor's download speeds were a bit higher than Zong's in Gulrez next to the tower... But the same (give or take) on other roads, away from the tower. Here, Mobilink seems to not be affected by poor 4G speeds (but maybe it'll be back to normal once they enable all towers? Or maybe not).
