The Budget 2011: Impact on Videogames

I guess this isn't high on anyone's agenda, but there is something in the budget that would make all software more expensive.

So, the 16% GST will probably come into affect for all software legally imported and sold in Pakistan. There was also something about the cost of computer software getting higher due to some other duty but I can't find any news about that.

Duty in commercial importers has been raised by 1% to around 3% now. That could have an affect on prices, but I doubt any electronic importer pays any kind of tax to begin with.

I'll keep you updated as soon as I find out more news.

^ those too. Depends on who gets exempted from the GST and all. The 1% duty on commercial importers is inconsequential.

As far as I know none of the importers pay any kind of tax because of our haram khur custom department and their jugaro-channel but yes all the seller will increase the price as now they have good reason to do so.

Lol no one pays tax on any stuff .
i personally talked to one of my cousins friend he said , we dont pay tax on anything, infact its all smuggled as in it comes through come kind of gate
so yes as long as u are a console gamer and buy original then tehre might be a FEW chances that you might get unlucky with those added 400-500 rupee , but again this is just what shopkeeper will say to u , in actuall he never paid any extra on that game u bought

3 % Fed ( From 1% ) - Teer Mara
1 % Federation Tax - Khota Tax - Ayaeyaashi Tax
3 % SED ( Seyalab Enterprise Tax ) - Awaam ko Chay bana rahay hai
2 % Development Levy ( Choona maar tax )

Total Tax : 25 % = RGST ( In hidden manner )

Now the khancha and extra is not involved. Is ko by pass karna to hai ye hai, custom officers are now given more authority to rip of poor business man. So overall IMO you should see 25 - 35 % increment in the prices of electronics. Haram khori will increase to 300 percent. So do not be alarmed. The prices you going to see will really be shocking. So do not get your self worried as our Rupee is also going to get more devalued by this Aug. Predictions state that 1$ = 91 - 93 . Good minded ppl can have an idea where we are heading ..... Abyss.

May Allah bring in foreign investments to save this country, else we are not capable to do anything when we got big arses sitting on the top that just know to poop. This is the worst awful catastrophe in the history of Pakistan.

I am assuming pepsi/coke bottles at 25 rps. Wait and see..... You all will cry ....

OH MY GOD!! forget our love for electronics man. Think about the poor, who already struggle for food/rent/bills. Things here are already smuggled, these haram khors will have a reason to sell their products at double the rate. Allah iss qoum ki hifazat farmaye. Ever since musharraf left, things have been so worse in the recent years. And it's quite a less time for such catastrophe. Never has a country ever had such an incompetent ass for president, probably.

Noop never. What do you expect countries like these? Prices are never and ever go down even when we become great great great grandfathers. But Bumbdhamakay and loadshedding will goes up and up forever.

Well a majority of these hardware things come in the category of "luxury" items. I don't see any reason not to increase duty on them.
Of course this is not the ideal situation and could have been avoided in favour of "other" things.
