Guys, quick question. I am visiting family home in Karachi from overseas and the PTCL broadband here is absolutely horrendous because of the copper wires and earthed poles. Whats the best PTCL wireless option for under 3k/month considering the main usage is Skype and casual browsing. The package details at PTCL website are very confusing, i know i should get one of these evo nitro or wingle non-usb modems but not sure which one.

Thanks !

Try their new 'Chaar Ji' EVO.
It gives you around 1-2MB/s with a 50GB monthly limit at 3500/-

Or 25GB monthly at 2000/-

That's pretty much enough for Skype and casual browsing, so long as you don't do much downloading.

I am considering it but it does feel like overkill for my needs. Plus the exceptionally high cost of the non-usb modem is giving me second thoughts.
The thing is that other Evo devices are crap. Their 3G network won't even give you proper 1Mbps, unless you're lucky and live in an area where there is comparatively less load.

There are loads of people here on PG who use Evo 3.1 and Nitro. They'll be able to guide you better. But the general opinion is bad.

Old nitro and wingle devices were Rev A network supported, new Wingle devices have Rev B network device support (same as Char 4)

I would love to see a comparison between Rev B devices, because as i said earlier i don't think there would be much difference in latencies sine both use same network. ;)

Any one got both Wingle and Char g, please test and share some results at same place, same time. (sm1)

I am confused, i thought you pay for the device first and than also pay for the internet starting from the first month. Are you saying if you get the 13k or 15k device, you dont have to pay for the internet service for the first few months ?

The device costs Rs 3000.

You have 3 options when you go to buy your Chaar ji device;

1) When you go to the PTCL Shop, you'll pay 3000 on the spot for the device and will have to pay for the Internet service after your first months usage according to your package.

2) You pay Rs 13500 on the spot. That way you get the device + 3 months Internet service i.e. Your monthly bill will start 3 months after you purchase your device. (You've already paid for the first 3 months along with your device)

3) You pay 15000 on the spot. You'll get your device + 4 months usage instead of 3 months.

So if one buys it for Rs.15000, can you keep downloading as much as you want and not worry about the month's usage? Hoping there's some loophole here :p
