A new 8MB Package has also been announced.

FAQs:

Q: I'm on 1Mb package, does that mean I won't be upgraded?
A: Unfortunately yes. PTCL is offering upgrades only to customers on 2Mbps and above.

Q: I seem to have been upgraded. My router shows upgraded speed but I am still getting my original speed, what to do?
A: Just relax. Things aren't gonna settle overnight. It's PTCL we're talking about here. The best you can do is to bear with it for some time. Hopefully, everything should be fine by 14th of August.

Q: Should I go on and start complaining to the Customer Support/ my Exchange office etc.?
A: You can try it. Who knows they give you a special treatment. But it's highly unlikely that things will work out for you.

Q: I have been upgraded and getting awesome speeds but I'm facing disconnections after every few minutes, what to do?
A: This is probably because the upgrading process is in progress right now, just wait till your connection becomes stable.

yupz that's true. I've just called them & requested for a 4mb upgrade . It'll take 4-7 days to upgrade from a students package.

PTCL has doubled its broadband data rate speed and upgraded all its existing 2Mbps customers to 4Mbps data rate on the same tariff and all existing 4Mbps customers have been upgraded to 6Mbps data service at the same tariff. In addition a new 8Mbps package has also been introduced. PTCL will have the following data rates for all its broadband existing and new customers with effect from July 15th 2010.
1Mbps at Rs 1199
4Mbps at Rs 1999
6Mbps at Rs 4999
8Mbps at Rs 6999
The existing 2Mbps package will no more exist and all existing 2Mbps customers have already been upgraded to 4Mbps package on the same tariff.

Maybe in March, they'll realize that people are leaving us (majority has 1 MBPS) because we forgot to upgrade them and then hopefully upgrade us too.

If someone wants to shift from 1mpbs to 4 mbps now will it require any change in their current copper line (assuming they are on copper line) or will they change it automatically from back end????

4 MBPS can be used on the copper wires but I can't say about speeds over 4 MBPS.

So they'll just tweak some settings from their end and you'll get 4 MBPS.

6mb wasn't really needed they could have just doubled the package like last time, And too bad the 1mb guys are stuck with such low bandwidth.

If u are not on student package, then why dont u pay 2k and get 4mb?
