PTCL Evo Cloud 3G

Okay, so I bought this device and it's slow. VERY slow. When I was buying the device, I asked the guy whether it was fast enough for me to play online and he said it was. The trouble is, the speed is for at least, 23 hours a day, 0.05 Mbps according to Speedtest. And that's not fast enough even to browse. So what the hell am I supposed to do now? And before anyone asks, the signal is full.

I really need to know what I am supposed to do before I give into this overwhelming urge to set the PTCL office on fire.

And I'm in Bahria Town, Rawalpindi.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they're advertising that as 3.1 Mb right? I read on another forum that Ptcl evo promises 3.1nb, however in reality there's a difference of units (megaBYTES vs megaBITS). There's some sorta conversion where you take the 3100 megabits and divide by 8, which gives you the speed in kilobits. And then you convert that somehow into kilobytes and you get like 48kb/s max speed. (apologies ahead of time if this isn't correct)

Im in the same boat as you, I have the Evo 3.1 USB and I get 10kb/s download speeds max, with full signal. Loading web pages is actually faster when I tether my Warid GPRS on my iPhone to my pc.

The speed of this device will be like Vptcl telephone internet if ur nearest exhange has no 3G... It depends on ur exchange.. u better check with them if they have setup wirless DSL service which they call 3G, in nearest exhange or not..

3G signals are not all over RWP.. its like in Patches.. u never know where u get the real 3G otherwise works not better than a Dialup modem

Wrong maths. Your device is 3.1 megabits per second (mbps). That is equal to 3174.4 kilo bits per second (kbps).

Remember that 1mbps=1024kbps.
So that means 3.1mbps=3174.4kbps

Now to get your speed in kilo bytes per second (kBps) you have to divide your speed by 8.
So 3174.4/8 = 396.8 kilo bytes per second (kBps). That is the downloading speed that you should essentially get.

I think it has to do with the reception in your area. I get 100-200kbps on it on average.

I used to get 400-500 on a max basis until I broke the device because it pissed me off by going below 200.

How can it be a weak signal if it has the green blinking signal icon?

So, just now at about 5:36 in the morning, I'm getting 1.30 Mbps according to Speedtest, I guess that's good.

I bought the thing on 14th August. Can I return it now?

That's why personally I've always preferred wired connections rather than wireless. Have been using WorldCall cable broadband for 4 years now. Once got a witribe wireless USB but returned it soon after because I wasn't getting the desired speeds. Wireless depends upon much more factors than a simple wired connection.

you must be an employee of PTCL or very near to its tower or maybe you have good contacts in PTCL

I normally get 280 - 310kbps download speed on my USB, so far its my most favourite internet connection with 0% downtime, as Shyber said its all depends on signel strength my Exchange booster is located at half a mile away from my home so may be that could be the reason.
