I do not think this game deserves the scores you gave it. Does that mean I'm forcing you to like it less?

I have not said that this is a bad game or anything. This is amongst the best games I have played in the past few months. But if I like something it does not mean that it is perfect and I can't see its faults.

As far as your question about co-op is concerned, I have played it upto chapter 4 in co-op mode.

Nice review Chandoo, Re5 has flaws and i give it 8.9 in my book. It certainly diverts from survival horror from previous resident evil games which have established over these years, just too much action in this one and no horror. Even RE4 has much better enviroment compare to part 5 and gives you few scary moments. The gameplay is good though surpassing RE4, giving you CO-OP mode to play with your friends is a fine addition and the graphics are great. The story was also much better compare to 4.

k first of all , this IS the best looking game on 360.period.

secondly , yes the cutscenes ARE in realtime, see you get these "Quick Time Events" during cutscenes later in the game(CH 6 - 3)

And lastly about it's score, well IMHO it's the second best game to hit the consoles this gen AFTER MGS4 which was rated 10 outta 10 so IMHO i would rate this game a 9.9 , The END , thanks for reading this post.

Sure Chandoo went overboard with scores in some departments but it doesn't mean he should be hanged for it lol. I mean, if I review MGS4, Final Fantasy and even RE - I might go overboard myself.

I mean......if GTA4 can get 10/10 for graphics by professional reviewers then RE5 is a 10 hell yeah. How many games do cutscenes better than RE5 and aren't scored 10 in graphics department? NONE.

That said, personally I haven't found ANY game that deserves a 10/10 in graphics so far. There's just no game that is that perfect. Half Life 2 rendered water much better than RE5 did and that game was out even on the original xbox. Crysis, I can name at least 3 games that out do one or more of its graphical prowess. Uncharted has pop ins at rare occassions, MGS4 shows some low res textures here and there and Killzone2 is beat in cutscenes/lip synchs by any recent AAA title. Point is, there's no 10/10.

Regarding platform specificness, yes that's important. Otherwise no game on PSP should be scored higher than 6. RE5 is not 10/10 even by 360's standard. I believe that baby's got more juice in it. I think I'll wait off till FFXIII

Regarding multiplayer. I think that's what makes RE5 a whole different experience from before. Sure it's not horror anymore. In fact, Uncharted was more horrific near its end compared to RE5 lol. I'm not complaining right now but I won't be a happy man if this formula is re-used again.

Well, did I say anything wrong?
RE5 re-used RE4's mechanics. I don't want that to happen again.

At first I found the new inventory a pain in the ass. But then I recalled that RE4 felt cumbersome. The Dpad based selection is far better and making it realtime helps in building tension.

But for some reason, RE4 felt incredibly difficult. May be the normal mode in RE5 is easy for two human players at it. We're getting S's on our completion time.

Its common sense that today's consoles are nowhere near the modern gaming PC. If you put Crysis as the comparison point then the highest most console games would go is 6 or 7.

PC games do look better in general, but not by that big a margin....lol....if anything, a game like Killzone 2 has proven that console games, when tailor made for their respective platform, can hold their own in terms of graphical prowess

Imho, every rating category should have its own reference. Like, for Graphics, you compare the game being reviewed to Crysis.

People share a difference of opinion, even when it comes to choosing candidates for a reference....for example, you probably have your own personal benchmarks (super high-res textures, superior HDR lighting etc.), on the basis of which you would pick Crysis....others may think differently, giving equal or more importance to other technical aspects, or even artistic accomplishments for that matter

anyway, we all should just agree that chandoo is the unofficial mascot for pg. i mean, no other reviewer gets so many replies or causes such heated debates as him.

i'm still with the review as far as graphics are concerned. i think they're the best i've seen ON THE PS3 (as that is the only gaming console i own. so nomad, back off!). i haven't played a lot of it, but in the marshlands level, where you get attacked by those zulu-zombies, i was just amazed at the graphical detail and just at the smoothness with which they move.

If you do go overboard with those reviews then who will be wrong? You, or the guy telling you that the game is very good but not as good as you are claiming it to be?

That was probably the worst example you could have given. Two wrongs do not make it right. I agree that Resident Evil 5 is better looking game then GTA4. But GTA4 was not that good looking to begin with. I was probably the first person on PG who disagreed with those review scores.

As much as I like this game, I still feel that it is a bit overrated.

Let's look at what IGN said
Gameplay = 10 , "While GTA doesn't have many issues, I will admit that the cover system is not perfect."

These guys rated GT5P's graphics as 9.

Gamespot in their video review said "Its not perfect".

I did not agree with those so called professional reviewers after playing the game. I was criticized for saying that the game is not 10/10 and there are better looking games which have scored less for their graphics.

That said, personally I haven't found ANY game that deserves a 10/10 in graphics so far. There's just no game that is that perfect.

I'm not comparing Resident Evil 5 with Crysis. Resident Evil 5 is also on PS3 and it is not the best looking PS3 game in all departments. It has the best character models, but it does not have environments, animation, physics, explosions, weapon effects and smoke like Killzone 2. Uncharted has better water and environments (specially plantation). Metal Gear Solid is better in some aspects as well.
So I'm not comparing games from different platforms. And upcoming games like Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 certainly look better. If any game is awarded 10 now then what will you award them? 11?

And before you guys call me a Crysis fanboy again, I do not think even Crysis deserves 10/10 for graphics. It is not better than all other games in all aspects. Some games have better character models, some have better animation, some have better explosions and smoke effects. Overall it is still the best looking game but most definitely not 10/10 when it is not better than all other games in all aspects. For me 10/10 is for something perfect.

That is exactly what I did. Read my first post in this thread. But if your comments are dragged in every other reply and you are criticized by name then what are you supposed to do? I had stopped responding to what Chandoo is saying but what are you guys doing?

Try to look somewhere other then Excella's ________ and you will start seeing the shortcomings . Even Chris is not as detailed as Excella :wink2:

I had a bit of trouble with AI. I really wanted the other character to be human controlled. It's was not about her ineffectiveness as a partner. I had a bit of trouble regarding weapon distribution.
AI is not as good as human players with sniper rifle. Therefore I kept the sniper rifle to myself in almost during the whole game.

Secondly AI selected weapons according to a set pattern. After the handgun its first choice is machine gun, even if it has more than enough shotgun ammo. There were situations where handgun was useless and using it was like wasting bullets, but AI did exactly that and chooses a different weapon only after wasting all the ammo of handgun.

AI refused to use grenade launcher. Even when it had a grenade launcher and it was out of all other sort of ammo it still did not use grenade launcher and kept on running around with an empty gun.

Let me tell you how what sort of a fan I am. I ended Resident Evil 1 and 3 more than twice. I ended Resident Evil 2 more than 5 times. I bought Playstation 2 only for playing Resident Evil 4 and ended it three times within a week. I have downloaded more than 4GB of patches/mods for PC version of Resident Evil 4 to make it look better (I have ended it twice as well). I had started playing Metal Gear Solid 4 (finally :$) but haven't played it since I got Resident Evil 5. I have ended Resident Evil 5 twice, have collected all the BSAA medallions to unlock all costumes and have played half the game in co-op as well on X360. But I'm still thinking of buying PS3 version of this game. I will buy all the DLC as soon as they will be available. And I know I will play it more then once when it is released on PC.

But being a fan does not make me blind. I can accept shortcomings of a game and still enjoy it. It does not have to be perfect for me to like it. And liking something does not make it perfect either.


Hopefully you guys can understand what I'm saying :wink2:

now see that's just the thing, if you come in here and express your general opinion, that's fine, but if you come in and start telling me how i reviewed the game wrong because i'm a fanboy and i was blinded by this and that, and that i shouldn't give x category y score because you didn't happen to enjoy it as much as i did... then that's just wrong.

that's when we have a problem.

and its not like you're the only one i replied to by name, it's just that no one else is as hell bent on trying to convince everyone that the game doesn't deserve the high score it did.

I think you've already expressed your part on how you don't agree with my score, it's better if you don't drag on the shit fest any longer.

Though it might not be that obvious from my post but my only criticism was living with other's review scores and respecting opinions unless they're completely stupid. In this case, it was a little over the top - not something to get a flame war on.

I stated reasons that might trigger someone giving something a 10/10. And then I proceeded to state my own personal opinions. I think that might've made you feel my post contradicting itself.

Or may be I'm sensible enough to acknowledge RE5's lack of perfection but an inner childish fanboy wants to see it a 10/10
