This is the kind of game that a person like me, who loves space, will really enjoy in the first 10 hours or so. After that, it will get boring I reckon, but that first initial hours experience is worth it for me. Just gotta save cash to buy it asap. :p

The feeling I got from seeing videos alone was awesome. Seeing full planets on proper scale, and vast distances that even your full speed takes time to reach, and the cool little addition where markers tell you how long it will take for you to reach depending on your velocity as apposed to showing just direction, really give the feel of the universe exploring game I wanted.

Also, the simple task of taking off from one planet and landing on another, on the go, feels so awesome.

IF a bigger studio were to make it, I'm sure they would have added other things like planets full of large cities, story arcs, side quests and whatnot. But people forget that a very small indie studio made this game, which is amazing in itself.

I hope it does well so that they can either create DLC in the future, adding longer and detailed story arcs and cities and stuff like that, or a sequel perhaps, expanding on this game in every way it is missing currently.

From what I've seen so far this game is just like minecraft without any of the interesting crafting mechanics. All you do is explore and gather resources on randomly generated planetoids. This is what the hype was all about. A walking simulator in space. Amazing. But it's actually worse because none of the planets are crafted, they're just a dice roll that the a computer rolled and it gets churned out. There's no conscious design in this game. Why would someone even explore that?

Gaming's really fallen astray if this was supposed to be the game to talk about this year. I'm glad I've been too busy to play anything for a while. I'll get the handful of actually decent games that have come out in the past few seasons to play now that I've got some free time. It sucks that I've got to hold off for a year to get at most two decent games to come out of that year's releases. Stuff is either overhyped like this game or has barely any mechanics to use all the buttons on the controller, also like this game. Well at least the schadenfreude from this game will be something. Also, what the fuck does this this even mean?

That does look cool to me. Of course I don't want to do that for like 40 hours or so but initial hours will be fun I reckon.

Now the hype thing was people's own fault in my opinion. From the get go, it was known that the game will procedurally generate everything, and the game is being made by a small indie studio. I don't know why people hyped it to be something far more than this, ultimately resulting in disappointment when it finally released. For me, I was just hyped to roam around in the galaxy. And if the game gives me the feeling I want, I would say they delivered on that part. It's all up in the air though till I actually play it for myself.

Sucks to hear that PC version is having tons of issues. Also, I'm super surprised that it has been cracked already. And since the size is so small, no harm in checking it out if it works properly or not. :p

The crack is working. Just ran the game. Optimization is shit just like what the people are saying. While I am getting frame rates between 70-110 on highest settings, the stuttering is VERY annoying, especially when new stuff is being generated. I hope the patch fixes it.

You should check out Elite Dangerous while you're at it.

Played about 3 hours of No Man's Sky and I'm really enjoying it so far. That first step when you repair your ship and travel from one planet to another was so awesome. Also, it can be surprising and fun to see weird life forms on different planets.

Have encountered rocky planets with little vegetation so far. Really looking forward to finding my first lush jungle one.

Also, some views in this game can be really mesmerizing:

[h=2]No Man’s Sky’s data library reveals possible character model, Half-Life 2 logo[/h][h=3]Half-Life 3 #confirmed...?[/h]

NeoGAF user Hugo Peters recently dug through the data files from the Steam version of No Man’s Sky and uncovered some interesting assets, including 3D models and a few suggestive file names.
There’s no actual way to see yourself in the game, and, despite some players’ best efforts, it doesn’t seem like anyone else can see you either. After scrubbing a folder of character models, though, Peters may have found the elusive look of the game’s protagonist, who seems to be riding the love child of a hoverboard and a unicycle:

The files refer to this model only as "Astronaut," so it could possibly belong to someone else in the game yet to be discovered.
Also present in the game’s demo folder was this adorable fez-wearing monkey:

The monkey is actually a staple of Hello Games’ previous series, Joe Danger. Chuckles the Chimp was added to the original Joe Danger as a downloadable extra in reference to a publisher’s request, upon being pitched the game before its release, that the developer consider making the main character Joe into a monkey. His presence in the files for No Man’s Sky, though, is a total mystery.
Another model known only as "Space Grave" appeared in the same folder:

It just looks like a sewer pipe floating in the middle of an ocean, but the name alone is enough to give us the willies.

More finds from the data library include insights into the development process for No Man’s Sky and, inexplicably, the logo for Half-Life 2in the game’s texture files.

The freedom to explore the space/galaxies is not like how they marketed it & mentioned before the release . But it's still a very big achievement for such a small team . Voxelization is future ...

Played the game for an hour or something. I honestly don't get it. The game seems pretty boring and pointless without a proper story or focus point. Maybe I'll try it again sometime.

What's exactly different, other than the multiplayer aspects?
Enhanced animal AI, Feeding, attacking, Fear and complexes.
Factions, Warring, Non static Fleets.
Animal variety, Different shapes and sizes, so far only smaller ones have been seen so far.
Planetary physics, axis rotation, Orbitting planets. (Some of it not confirmed still)

Theres alot of other things.

When you are in a particular solar system , it actually is a very big sphere with a skybox of Sun & distant stars . You cant reach them without doing a warp jump . It's hasnt complete freedom like getting into other systems if you keep traveling with boost for hours .

Here's an archived page of all the missing features that some guy collected. He kept updating the list as stuff was found. He has since deleted his account, don't know the reason but I'm pretty sure he got a lot of flak for daring to catalogue all the features that were promised but never implemented.

But remember guys, all the hype is the consumer's fault. Hello Games is totally faultless, they in no way contributed to people getting overhyped.

Edit: Holy shit, actually reading through the thread some of the shit these guys were saying was hilarious.

When he desired the possibility of green skies, the team had to redesign the periodic table to create atmospheric particles that would diffract light at just the right wavelength.
Hahahahaha. Like what? They were gonna simulate particles refracting light depending on their wavelength? What type of god game were they thinking of making? lmfao

True. I noticed that too. But even if they did implemented it, it wouldn't really matter because the distance between each system is so large, no one will be able to make the journey on boost speeds.

Some of the stuff is missing, but some is still there.

Animal AI, while not enhanced, is present. They hunt, they stay in groups, stay in harmony with other species, are scared of you or attack you etc.

I have seen large ships sending distress signals as other ships are attacking them etc, in a video. IT is something. :p
Haven't encountered something like this myself so far though.

Animal variety is fully present. Even my 7-8 hours of gameplay so far has shown me that. I have seen from small weirdos to large weirdos. Now just hoping to land on a planet with extremely large weirdos.

Day-Night cycle is present. Moons are static from what I could tell. Not sure about the planets moving relative to each other and other movements.
