Google Ordered To Remove Anti-Islamic Film From YouTube

Posted by Soulskill on Wednesday February 26, 2014 @06:20PM

cold fjord writes "The Verge reports, 'Google and YouTube must scrub all copies of Innocence of Muslims, a low-budget anti-Islam film that drew international protest in 2012, at the behest of an actress who says she received death threats after being duped into a role. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has granted a temporary takedown order on behalf of Cindy Lee Garcia, who filed a copyright claim against Google in an attempt to purge the video from the web. While actors usually give up the right to assert copyright protection when they agree to appear in a film, Garcia says that not only was she never an employee in any meaningful sense, the finished film bore virtually no relation to the one she agreed to appear in. In a majority opinion, Judge Alex Kozinski said she was likely in the right.' — Techdirt has extensive commentary on the ruling that's worth reading. It seems likely there will be an appeal, with the distinct possibility that Google and the MPAA will be on the same side."

Yeah good news about the court orders but our lazy I.T minister hasn't even announced that they lift the band because of this.

That ruling won't do much unless the video is removed immediately. It's a far fetched thought anyway. Moreover, a US ruling has no affect here unless it can be used as a means of persuasion.

The more important case that should be followed is of Bytes for All v Govt. of Pakistan

https://www.facebook.com/BytesForAllPakistan/posts/616039948464870?stream_ref=10

This case is directly dealing with the issue overall. Plus, this will be the key to scrutiny of internet censorship in Pakistan. Follow their page/twitter!

Bhai Logo, bhool jao YouTube kabhi nai khulni. I don't know why are you guys even "hoping" that our Govt will open it up after "this" puny incident. (I am even more surprised to see the happiness of some poor souls who think this is a "good" step, or are in this false happiness that "Google removed the video because it was anti-islamic". This just creates more twists thats all. But lets wait and see what happens.

Meanwhile, our Govt only showed us that they banned YouTube for Anti-Islamic films. Any of you have NO IDEA about their intentions because my guess is they banned it for their own gain.

Gradually transitioning from console gaming to PC as the games are not worth it. 6 hours of Hellblade 2 is just not worth the $50 price tag.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
