Aoa, as the title says, i have to submit my project proposal within a week. And i don't know what to work on :p. I'm thinking of doing project in Java but don't know what create in it. I don't want any high-fi typo project to be submitted as my main field is Networking and our University don't approves Networking Projects.

So, my question is what should i create using Java. Database like Oracle/PhP will also be a part of it.......

PHP is a programming language not a database management system. MySQL (pronounced My Sequel) is the open source DBMS widely used with PHP.

Java is used in two places these days. In large scale enterprises where you have different platforms that need to work together and in the mobile sphere. So I suggest making a mobile app for android or some such platform if you want to use Java.

Another option is to use PHP. Using PHP and a framework like cake php (totally optional) you could easily make a content management system. This forum, for example, is PHP powered. As are most sites on the Internet these days.

Regardless of what you choose to do just be honest and do your own coding.

have you thought about implementing a protocol stack either in java or C? it would be a robust software project and will really hone your networking skills too.

Depends upon which programming languages you know.
& the most important thing is don't start anything that you cannot finish off in time or get stuck in it half way through, most of the students does that. :p
So be realistic select a small project but do it properly, so can learn from it as well as get good marks :D
In which university do you study??
And NO i am not a teacher :D

make a desktop or android game.. with networking support.. really easy in Java..

eg:
Battle tanks
Tower defence
Snake
tetris

etc etc

I personally always favor making games instead of softwares, games are so much more fun (even to make :p).

btw.. which Uni? which course?

PS: a really cool game would be an RPG like the old days! with cool sprites and stuff :p

Well im making project now in Android, but making games sounds hard....any support?
I really don't know why people think making games is hard (at least at a basic level :p).. I mean just think of an idea and implement it, there is no hidden complexity involved..
All the ideas I gave above are simple, and implementable for a second year-ish CS/EE major.

Pick an idea, I can hopefully give you some suggestions/guidelines. And other PG member can help in too :)

BTW, i started Ghost of Tsushima, and it got me hooked within the first couple of minutes. I already know It's gonna be a memorable experience. This is how you make a proper Samurai game. Not that SJW game Ubisoft is making.

That's still higher than it's total play length. A 5 hour campaign for a $50 game is downright scammy.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.
The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

It is indeed the worst generation by far.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

  • L LegacyGamerGuy:
As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Gradually transitioning from console gaming to PC as the games are not worth it. 6 hours of Hellblade 2 is just not worth the $50 price tag.
Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
