Internet stops working every time the phone rings

Yeah. And it's friggin annoying. :/

At first I thought it was just a coincidence, but it kept happening over and over again, and the same thing each time. The 'internet' light on my modem goes out exactly at the same moment as the phone rings. After roughly a minute of pure agony everything starts working fine again, so it's not such a big deal, but I just don't understand why this is happening at all.

Started randomly occurring a few weeks ago. I've no idea what could be wrong, so...halp. :<

PS. I'm on 1mbps connection on PTCL.

^ I DO have the splitter connected USUF. ~_~ How else do you think I'd be accessing the internet?

Okay, I rechecked the splitter thingie. (I'm actually using two of them, because the wires weren't long enough.) One of them has markings for 'modem' and 'phone', but the other doesn't. So I tried to switch the wires in the one without the markings. Let's see if it makes any difference...

I think its not a good idea to use 2 splitters... u shud use only one. or confirm it from some techie before using.
It was working fine up until recently, so I'unno.

Update: Nope, made no difference. I'm still having the same problem.

I've had this wire configuration for 3 or so months now, but the problem only started 2 weeks ago. So I don't know if that's the problem or something else.

I had the EXACT same prob back when I was on fixed line DSL (Micronet). In my case it was because of static in the phone line.

Next time you get a call while the internet is connected, listen closely, youll hear this 'crackling' noise, thats static in your phone line. It means the line coming from the box outside your place to your splitter was probably exposed to moisture.

If changing the splitter doesnt work, youll need to get the entire wire replaced from the box to your home. Should solve the prob.

Well that's a pain. :/ I do hear static occasionally, so I guess the line must be denigrating. I'll talk to my father about that. Thanks for the advice!

I would advise you connect your DSL to the main phone line instead of to an extension, which i bet is in your case. Connecting your DSL to extensions always give this problem.
You`ll have to ask a lineman to do that. It will require some extra cabling but it`ll certainly solve your problem

Usman is your modem connected directly to the phone line?
We have a proper wiring system with phone connections in wall-sockets for every room. That might cause an increase in ping, can't it?

^ I had the lineman take a connection directly from the main phone line.
That wire I/O connected with the splitter basically makes it the hub. From the splitter, one wire is connected to the modem directly. The other line from the adjacent socket goes out to the extensions.
I haven`t faced any problem whatsoever even if someone is talking on the phone. Ping is great and remains constant the entire time. In your case, you`ve connected your modem to an extension and that gives rise to problems

Had this exact same problem as Arsal when i got PTCL for the first time.

turns out the error was neither splitter nor router, it was just the shitty wire the PTCL guy used to connect the box to the phone line, the other guy who i called in to check it out removed it and made a direct connection between the router and the phone line attaching a splitter in between. Problem solved
