Installing windows on laptop help

my friend gave me his laptop but he doesnt have the driver CD for it . Its some old hp pavilion.It already has windows vista i am going to install windows 7.should i do and clean install and what should i do about the drivers.

you can always download drivers .. but if its abit old model don't bother installing windows 7..

If it has less than 2gb ram installed then u can run windows 7 basic otherwise i would recommend u to go back to xp for best performance and as for the drivers u can check what motherboard it has and google its drivers or u can go to intel's website and run automatic driver install setup on the website

even with 2gb ram downgrading to XP is a good choice .. Hack it took like windows 7 ...

You can make a USB Stick Bootable and install windows with it. "Windows 7 USB Download Tool" will work just fine.

If its an old machine, then i prefer to install Windows 8 as its more optimized and will perform 2x better on older hardware as compared to Windows 7. For further help in this matter, you can check the Sticky thread. You can get a LEGIT Windows 8 these days Free of Cost with a little trick, and I suggest you make use of that offer as its only available till the End of Dec. 2012.

About the Drivers, most of the drivers will be installed automatically. However, its important that you download its real drivers and install those. Especially the Touch Pad drivers, inorder to make the "Gestures" work on Windows 8. Multi Touch can do wonders turst me
