What if it's a subscription based model? You don't own anything on GamePass, PS Plus, Twitch Prime, Discord, Amazon or Netflix. Millions of people are still subscribed to those services. If your most frequent use case is playing games in remote areas with flaky internet then whats the alternative? You need to carry your console to thise places and make sure you have a TV at those places as well.
I still remember the good old days of Sega when we used to lug our Genesis (or Mega Drives in our case) to villages in Punjab for family trips. Good times.
Anyway, internet outages, downtime or inconsistent services are things which can effect bigger metropolitan areas as well, not just remote one's. Even the biggest nations like the US, Canada etc cannot guarantee uniform internet speed/bandwidth across the majority of the country.
Netflix can operate at extremely low bandwidth rates, static video still looks presentable and acceptable at 480p with 2 to 3 Mb/s bandwidth. Fast paced gaming will probably not look that great on those specs, for a 4K streaming signal you need to have a constant 30~35 Mb/s stream, without any interruptions. For a lot of people, that's a pipe dream.
PS+, Game Pass kinda services I won't add in the same column because 1/ those are auxiliary services, their consoles don't solely depend on them. 2/ Game Pass and Plus also let you download game content to your HDD's, so outside of authentication, you're not streaming the game content.
Do you honestly think e sport tournaments, or the bigger player base for twitch shooters like CoD or Battlefield will transition to a streaming service ? I don't think it'll be happening any time soon personally.
The biggest flaw with the digital only platform is that if the platform holder pulls the plug .. that's it .. everything's gone. The biggest and most recent example of this is that the entire Wii Store is now completely gone because Nintendo pulled the digital plug. There are so many games, including some really well received high profile 2D Castlevania games, which are completely inaccessible to anyone anymore. The all-digital platforms have a lot of very obvious flaws.
