[h=2]Microsoft revokes free copies of Fallout 4 downloaded from Xbox Store[/h][h=3]Xbox One owners will still get something for free in the end[/h]

On Thursday, Xbox One owners were able to download Fallout 4, its season pass and its expansions for free, thanks to a pricing error on the Xbox Store. Today, Microsoft issued a bit of bad news to those who were able to download Fallout 4 for free: The company is revoking those licenses.
But Xbox One owners who were quick on the download won't walk away empty-handed.

Here's the message the company sent out to some Xbox One owners today:
Our pricing error on Fallout 4 has been fixed and your free download will no longer work. For the inconvenience we will deposit $10 by the end of June in your Microsoft Account. This expires one year from the time it was deposited.
The good news is that Microsoft's $10 credit is enough to cover a legitimately-acquired copy of Fallout 4's Automatron or Wasteland Workshop DLC, if you don't already own it.

[h=2]Fallout 4 and Skyrim aren’t getting mods on PS4 (update)[/h][h=3]Bethesda points fingers right at Sony[/h]

Bethesda Game Studios has given up on its fight to implement mods on the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 4, the developer announced on its website. It’s not just Fallout 4 that is going mod-free on PS4, though; The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition will also ship without previously promised mod support on the console.
These decisions were made not by Bethesda, according to a post, but Sony.

"After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition," wrote the company.
Bethesda previously announced that it would bring modding to both Xbox One and PS4 versions of these games, but while Xbox One players of Fallout 4 have been altering the wasteland at their leisure for months now, PS4 players have been made to wait impatiently. Just a few weeks ago, the company said that PS4 mods were still "under evaluation," implying that little movement had been made on getting mod support running on the console.
Yet Sony has consistently denied the modding update for Fallout 4, based on factors that Bethesda has not disclosed. Modding is huge for Fallout — and Elder Scrolls —players, with the community contributing vast numbers of useful and superfluous upgrades on a regular basis. PS4 players, it seems, will now be left out of the loop for good.
Update: Microsoft has seized on the opportunity to go in on Sony, quickly publishing a series of tweets highlighting the Xbox One's mod support. Surprising no one, Microsoft isn't holding back against its competitor.

[h=2]Microsoft continues to attack Sony on every newly announced PlayStation 4 weakness[/h][h=3]The Xbox One fights back[/h]

Bethesda announced today that Fallout 4 and Skyrim mods won't be coming to the PlayStation 4. Microsoft didn't wait very long before capitalizing on the news.

It's not just members of the Xbox team, as the console's official accounts seem to be much more willing to post passive-aggressive messages about the limitations of the PlayStation 4 platform.

This isn't the first time Microsoft has come after Sony in the past week. The console wars seem to be heating up a bit again now that Sony has shared more details about the PlayStation 4 Pro and Microsoft finds itself on the winning end of a few pre-emptive battles.

[h=1]Fallout 4, Skyrim Special Edition will get mod support on PS4 after all[/h]

[h=2]Both games also support 4K resolution on PS4 Pro[/h]

The PlayStation 4 versions of Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition will get mod support after all, Bethesda Softworks announced today. That’s a welcome reversal from September, when Bethesda said that promised mod support on PS4 wasn’t coming, due to unspecified restrictions from Sony.
Mod support will come to the PS4 version of Skyrim first, Bethesda said on its website. The remastered version of Skyrim launches on PS4 (and Xbox One) on Oct. 28.
Skyrim Special Edition will also support Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro, Bethesda said, with "native 4K" rendering available on the more powerful console.
Bethesda said it plans to update Fallout 4 to support mods and PS4 Pro hardware after work on Skyrim Special Edition is complete. "We expect Fallout 4 to take advantage of the PS4 Pro in 4k along with enhanced lighting and graphics features," the company added.

Mod support for the console versions of Fallout 4 were announced earlier this year and were expected to be available on both platforms by June. Xbox One owners got mod support for Fallout 4 in May, while PS4 owners were forced to wait for reasons that were unclear.
Bethesda points out one major limitation on PS4 mods that console owners should be aware of:
You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do.

Fallout 4 and Skyrim mods can be developed using Bethesda’s Creation Kit, a free download from its website.

[h=1]Fallout 4 PS4 mod support is imminent[/h]

[h=2]Currently in certification, coming very soon[/h]

The patch bringing mod support, at last, to Fallout 4 on the PlayStation 4, is finished and going through certification, developer Bethesda Game Studios noted today.
It's been a long and winding road toward mod support on PlayStation 4, which was originally promised late this summer, was repeatedly delayed, and looked dead altogether back in September.
Bethesda reversed itself in early October, saying it had figured out how to deliver mod support for the game, albeit with one huge restriction: Mods can't use any external assets.
Mods are built with the Creation Kit, which is a free download. Mod support is also coming to the remastered Skyrim Special Edition.

The full patch notes are here. The title update is out for PC, and being certified for the two consoles.

[h=1]Fallout 4’s next patch beefs up visuals on PS4 Pro, PC[/h]

[h=2]More mod support coming next week, too[/h]

Fallout 4's next patch will add PlayStation 4 Pro support and PC users will get a beefy high-resolution texture pack that significantly ramps up the game's visuals.
Update 1.9 on PlayStation 4 will roll out next week, and for PS4 Pro users, it will add native 1440p resolution, enhanced Godray effects (those shafts of light coming through clouds or trees) and enhanced draw distance for trees, grass, objects and, perhaps helpfully, NPCs.
The high resolution texture pack takes up another 58 GB of hard drive space and carries its own set of recommended specifications. "If your system can handle it, the Commonwealth will look better than ever," Bethesda Softworks said in a blog post. "Give it a shot and if you need to return to the original textures, you can disable them within the game’s launcher menu."
Bethesda also teased an update coming for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition, on all platforms, that along with the update to Fallout 4 is "bringing new features to Mod content" for both games. Bethesda said more about that will be shared in the coming week.

[h=1]Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition coming next month (update)[/h]

[h=2]And they found some Pip-Boy Editions, too![/h]

Fallout 4 publisher Bethesda Softworks will release a Game of the Year Edition of the post-apocalyptic open-world game on Sept. 26, the company announced today.
It’s a bit of a latecomer, considering that Fallout 4 debuted back in November 2015. As you might expect, the Game of the Year Edition will include all six of Fallout 4’s add-ons:Automatron (originally released in March 2016), “Wasteland Workshop” (April 2016), Far Harbor (May 2016), “Contraptions Workshop” (June 2016), “Vault-Tec Workshop” (July 2016) and Nuka-World (August 2016).
Of course, the package will also come with all of the features that developer Bethesda Game Studios has added over the years in patches. For instance, the company released ahigh-resolution texture pack for the game’s Windows PC version in February.

Bethesda also made a special announcement alongside the re-release news: It’s bringing the Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4 out of the vault for another production run.
If you don’t remember the heady days of the summer of 2015, here’s a refresher: Fallout fans were scrambling to pre-order the Pip-Boy Edition, and the package sold out over and over again. In fact, Bethesda said at one point that it couldn’t manufacture any more of them before the game’s release.
The Pip-Boy Edition, which originally cost $119.99, includes a real-life Pip-Boy — the protagonist’s wrist-mounted computer in the Fallout games — that works by allowing players to slot their smartphone into it and use the Pip-Boy app with the game.
Bethesda noted on Twitter this morning that the new Pip-Boy Edition will not come in the same “capsule casing” as the original collector’s edition:

The re-release of the Pip-Boy Edition will be sold for $99.99 exclusively in North America “at select retailers,” Bethesda said. The package, which will include the $59.99 Game of the Year Edition, will be released alongside it on Sept. 26. Both versions will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Update: Fallout 4’s Game of the Year Edition will cost $59.99, a Bethesda representative told Polygon. We’ve edited the article to reflect this.
Update 2: If you’re interested in more Fallout, Fantasy Flight Games announced today that it’s working on a board game based on the series that’s just called Fallout.
Update 3: Bethesda clarified on Twitter that the Game of the Year Edition’s Pip-Boy Edition will not come in the same packaging as the original game’s Pip-Boy Edition. We’ve edited the article to reflect this.
