THQ AND CRYTEK COLLABORATE TO DEVELOP NEXT
HOMEFRONT TITLE

Legendary FPS Developer Set To Take THQ's Successful Original IP
To New Heights

AGOURA HILLS, Calif., September 20, 2011 - THQ Inc., (NASDAQ: THQI) today announced that the next title in its Homefront® franchise will be developed by multi-award winning FPS veterans Crytek.

"Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry's best talent," said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. "Homefront's unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek's industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we're supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand."

"We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ," said Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek. "We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It's really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way."

The first Homefront title was released in March 2011, and proved to be a commercial success for THQ. The yet-to-be-named sequel is scheduled for release in THQ's fiscal year 2014 on console and PC platforms.

About Homefront
The year is 2027. The world as we know it is unraveling after fifteen years of economic meltdown and widespread global conflict over dwindling natural resources.

A once proud America has fallen, her infrastructure shattered and military in disarray. Crippled by a devastating EMP strike the USA is powerless to resist the ever expanding occupation of a savage, nuclear armed Greater Korean Republic.

Abandoned by her former allies, the United States is a bleak landscape of walled towns and abandoned suburbs. This is a police state where high school stadiums have become detention centers, and shopping malls shelter armored attack vehicles. A once-free people are now prisoners ... or collaborators ... or revolutionaries.

Meanwhile, the splintered nations of Europe struggle to maintain peace at home, as the global economy continues its downward spiral, and civil order disintegrates. The world is teetering on the brink of ruin ...

More precisely, it's Crytek UK/Free Radical working on the game.

Crytek UK reigniting Homefront

Nottingham-based studio responsible for Haze, TimeSplitters taking on development duties for as-yet-unnamed sequel.

While THQ's stock dived as a result of the mixed critical reception for Homefront, the publisher hinted in May that a sequel was on the way when it announced that 2.6 million sales represented "a solid start for this new franchise." Hopes of a full sequel were dealt a blow back in July when THQ confirmed that it was to shutter Kaos Studios, but today the publisher confirmed that another Homefront game was indeed in the works.

The sequel to Homefront will be released at some point in the THQ's 2014 fiscal year--which translates as some time between April 2013 and the end of March 2014--according to the publisher. The game, which does not yet have a title, will be developed by Crytek's Nottingham studio, which was known as Free Radical before it was bought up by the German developer best known for the Crysis series and Crytek engine.

Free Radical's most recent game before being annexed was the less-than-stellar Haze, though before that it was best known for the revered Timesplitters series. Details on the game were scarce, save that it wil be powered by "the very latest" CryEngine technology.

The game will be released on "PC and home console platforms," according to THQ. The press release for the game does not confirm specifics, though it does reference both PlayStation and Xbox platforms, with no mention of the Wii U or other Nintendo offerings. Title will be called Homecry.

Dont have any high expectations from Crytek now after what they did with Crysis series on PC.

News is good but think about this for a bit:

Will CryEngine3 meet the demands of PC owners in 2014? My system currently maxes Crysis 2 and I am still not satisfied with the graphics it offers. Crysis 2 would look like a SEGA game in 3 years. I am not sure I would want to run any other game made on CE3 in 2014. Maybe CryEngine5 :p

Crytek UK/ Free Radical has been absolutely FAIL this gen so far!

I wonder why Crytek decided to buy these guys =\

Edit:

Oh wait, it's Crytek UK. Never mind, then.
Why? Crytek UK's version of Crysis 2 (MP) was the worst tech wise.

Precisely.

They had neat ideas for Crysis 2 MP (but that was mostly due to the Nanosuit gameplay), but ultimately Time Splitters 2 is the only decent game they ever came out with and the only game they are recognized for.

Unless the next gen consoles come with dx 12 chips, CryEngine 3 (with further improvements) is all we gonna get on consoles next gen from Crytek!

Crytek + Homefront = EPIC! I loved the first one. This will just make it better. I don't care if the game LOOKS good. I just want to see how the story goes. Graphics aren't VERY important to me. I played CoD 1 a few months back. But I think this game'll be a big success.

Holy BLASPHEMY! The whole timesplitter's franchise was awesome. TimeSplitters HD collection PLEASE! (I don't want them to mess up a great franchise.)

BTW, i started Ghost of Tsushima, and it got me hooked within the first couple of minutes. I already know It's gonna be a memorable experience. This is how you make a proper Samurai game. Not that SJW game Ubisoft is making.

That's still higher than it's total play length. A 5 hour campaign for a $50 game is downright scammy.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.
The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.
