Oh COME ON ! ! dont u guys see who really is to blame here ? its NOT AT ALL XFX !! its The Fooked Galaxy to blame...they are the ones who specifically order crippled version since they cost em much much cheaper ( SINCE THEY ARE A BAD BATCH FROM XFX AND HENCE USELESS FOR XFX pine group ) and hence much higher profit yields....

so trust me XFX is a really reputable company and is not to blame here...the Mofo galaxy ppl are !

P.S ive tried almost every brand of Gpu's out there...Zotac, XFX , EVGA, INNO3D, MSI, ECS, PALIT, GIGABYTE and trust me XFX is one of the better ones...especially with their Black editions...
i would agree with u brother ! Galaxy is the one to be blamed, all they want is to rip us off.
First they started restocking the 9800gt and 9600gt with the stripped down version and now the same is going on with the XFX HD 4800 series.

^ Agreed thats true. I am guessing the used cards (8800/9800GTXs) on Galaxy are stripped off versions. People either return them or claim their warranty due to a failure. And Galaxy re boxes them with 1 week warranty. Its true that XFX releases a LARGE variety of a single graphics card (from normal to stripped down and OC and super OCed versions) but they have a 50-80$ price difference in them (difference between the highest and the stripped off one) but Galaxy sells us at the standard rate.

PS: I think thats why EVGA are short on Galaxy. EVGA just OCs cards and releases them. They usually do not have normal clocked versions.

i have confirmed the following facts:

XFX 4870 512 MB C Version Rs. 13K, however, they give full warrenty as they are main importer of XFX in pakistan, so if there is problum with the procduct, warrenty is there to proctect you

other cards ejoys the similer price as are available at galaxy and czone.

Another important thing they are also importing XFX i5 Boards and they are expected to be available soon.

I donot have any interest in this transactions and i m sharing just for the sake of members :)

But XFX makes those cripple cards thats why Galaxy orders them. so the blame has to be on XFX if they stop making such cards Galaxy has no choice. simple.

Dude.. as Shajeel has said that XFX does it for people who cant afford the normal clocked versions and can sacrifice some performance for saving some money. It still would have been fine had Galaxy sell the downgraded versions cheaper than normal clocked ones and also make awareness amongst customers of what he is buying.

Erm, is it not XFX thats making downgraded cards and then shipping them with the exact same names as their original counterparts?

The crippled 9800s and 9600s had the same packaging, same color scheme, same names, same coolers and all but the specs were much lower than the originals. They could've renamed the crippled cards (to something like LE) so as to differentiate the downgraded versions from the original reference specs.

So yes, it is XFX thats to blame here since they are the ones who shipped the crippled cards with the same names as the originals.

Galaxy's price is perfectly fine... 4870 1GB for Rs. 14,500.

These are 4870 512mb with the crappiest cooler ever for only Rs. 1,500 less.

Note that XFX motherboards are terrible. The worst ever.

Just look at the XFX X58 reviews on Newegg. It has two stars out of five. There are all these complaints about the board failing and not performing as it should. It was even discontinued there because of how bad the board was.

XFX is definitely not one of the better companies out there, I would prefer EVGA, BFG, MSI, ASUS, or even Zotac any day of the week.

I don't understand the 'crippled' card thing either. As far as I've heard, it has to do with the shader cores, or stream processors. For example, a 5870 has 800 stream processors - that's just the way it is. Now how can you sell that thing at a lower price with say 640 stream processors and still call it a 5870? With those less stream processors, it turns into a 5850 - but XFX are branding it as a 5870 with some weird model number next to it? This doesn't make sense.

Why don't they just call it whatever the GPU is?

So why does XFX call their 9800GT a 9800GT and not a 9600GT and their 9600GT a 9600GT and not a..... 9550GT? :S

---------- Post added at 08:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 PM ----------

EDIT:

Wait... where did you get those figures from Baber? The XFX 9800GT listed on the Galaxy site has proper shader cores...

The XFX 9600GT on the other hand says 48 to 64 shader cores on their website... which I find very strange. Either it is 48 or it is 64.. why does it say 48-64? Apparently their overclocked versions have more shader cores?? That's just plain weird.

Many members here purchased those crippled cards coz they didn't know that those cards existed.

The biggest example is Sir Ahsan who purchased a 9800Gt which waasn't having 112 Sp's.

U may find Sir Ahsan's thread in hardware section

Well I believe that 9800GT must have been a defective card, not an intentionally crippled one.

The 9600GT video cards have a whole different case though.

what exactly is the difference in specifications of the crippled card other than the heatsink
