I downloaded and installed same thing but in bit different way. Instead of extraction I opened the iso image via daemon tools and ran the setup. 8.1 installed without any problem.I just upgraded my existing Windows 8 to 8.1. Used the following disc:
MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.1.RTM.X64.ENGLISH.DVD-WZT
SIZE: 3,899,295,744 byte
SHA-1: BC2F7FF5C91C9F0F8676E39E703085C65072139B
MD5: F104B78019E86E74B149AE5E510F7BE9
Used the following keys for installation:
Core=334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
Professional=XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB
Use the Professional Key.
Anyway, Extracted the Disc in a Folder, and ran the setup from inside Windows. Upgraded just fine, without losing any files, data or anything whatsoever. (Just lose some Equalizer settings of Realtek HD Audio Manager)
Used KMSpico v9.0.3.20131029_Beta Edition for activating BOTH Windows 8.1 & Office 2013.
@Owi Khan, @The Avenger .... FYI!

How To Boot To Desktop In Windows 8.1 Instead Of Tiles Screen
Step 1: In Desktop mode, right-click the taskbar and hit Properties.
Step 2: Go to the Navigation tab from top.
Step 3: Under Start screen (bottom pane), check the first option that says “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start”.
Step 4: Hit OK or Apply, and you’re good to go.
Doing so will bypass the Start Screen the next time you log on to Windows, putting you directly face to face with the familiar old Desktop.
