I read this on the ProPakistani website as one of the comments. A user posted a snipped of the e-mail they received from Mi Global.

" We are sorry to inform you that as of now we are not selling our products through the official global website in your region (Pakistan) and we do not have official updates regarding the launching of the products in your region (Pakistan), so we won't be able to assist you regarding the availability of the products."

Anyone know anything about this?

Possibly due to the introduction of DIRBS, although that shouldn't affect it, but who knows.

Or they no longer have an authorized distributor / service provider. Previously it was SmartLink, but maybe they're not using them anymore and are looking for a new distributor here.

DIRBS is just a system for blocking stolen phones and unlikely to have any relation to this.

Maybe Smartlink have been dropped as anthorized dealer, and if that's true, doing any business with them would be at one's own risk.

they have a different site for pakistan at mistore.pk so that's what they mean by the quote in the OP. they aren't selling via the global site but instead have a country specific one for us.

Well that's some encouraging news for us Tech savvy people, but nothing is posted in Airlink's website, honestly their website looks so old & outdated, as this is the same scenario with most Pakistani websites.

As far I get this information and verified it. Customs in Pakistan are making it a tough one, the duties and all charges are making the product price very high, in order to compete, they will face issues. So this could be one of the other reasons they are not considering Pakistan at the moment.

I think it is very plausible that Xiaomi is planning on dropping smartlinks as their distributor, and this airlink deal is a step in that direction. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this infomration is something to be aware off if you're buying a Xiaomi phone in the coming days/weeks.

I believe the mistore.pk website is run by Smartlinks, and if you look at their product pages, they have NO NEW products for at least 2-3 months, and they haven't even gotten new stocks for their sold out phones (Redmi 5 plus 3/32 variant) in that same 2-3 month period. The last Redmi 5 plus sake was easily 2-3 months ago.

As a distributor, do they only deal with resellers (middle man mobile shop owners) or do they have a retail outlet and sell directly to customers as well?

Wow, after 2-3 months of what looked like inactivity to me, I got an email from Mistore.pk/Smartlinks today.

They are finally releasnig the Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Redmi S2 on 30th June. Thanks for releasing months old products finally that have already been rendered obsolete by the release in China of Redmi 6 series of phones...

"Redmi Note 5 Pro (4/64GB) and Redmi S2 (3GB/32GB and 4/64GB) are launching on 30th June!"

Re-sellers only, as i haven't seen any retail outlet here in Rawalpindi!

Redmi S2 with 720 display, but the rest of specs looks like Redmi 5 plus, i hope the price it under 20K mark or near it.

While Note 5 Pro for 25K mark! which i doubt will be the case.

I doubt the S2 will do well considering the low 720p display and there is so much competition in that price bracket. I've also seen quite a few reviews that say it isn't anything to write home about.

The Redmi 5 Pro for 25k would be decent, but it will probably cost around 30k, and that's just a rip off considering the phone is 14,999 (or less) rupees in India.

Yeah well that's the problem, as i wouldn't want to spend 30K on a mid-range Redmi device, for just Dual AI camera Gimmick!

Just checked the MIstore.PK website, and the Redmi Note 5 Pro (4-64 variant) is going to be sold for 31,000 PKR. I don't know if this is just the introductory price, or if the price will go up afterwards, but even at 31,000, I do not think it is very competitively priced.

I'd do not care about dual cameras, Bokeh/Portrait mode, and I do not care care about AI gimmickry. Wouldn't pay a penny more for that trendy garbage, but I know many people will. I guess a fool and his money are soon parted. Oh, well.

Yeah agreed 31K is way too much for an so called AI front Camera smartphone, i was hoping, it to be under 28K, maybe Daraz Flash sales will offer less price.

So, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has been released in Pakistan in the same week that the Redmi Note 6 Pro was released in China...

Does it make you feel like Pakistan is just a dumping ground for old stock that Xiaomi want to sell?

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
