Religion teaches us moderation? Forget the extremely strict dress code (contrary to men's), just take a look at this little part here about who women can hang around:

they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex

If we follow the above, the 'joint family system' we have over here that we are usually so proud of, can't exist. My brother's wife can't be around me the same way my sister or mother or aunt can. Nor can women attend marriage ceremonies all dressed up (since its a given there will be people besides the ones mentioned above there).

In my opinion, moderation is a combination of the understanding of the religious law, and then transforming and adjusting it in a way that it can be followed in whichever society or time you live in. You simply CAN NOT follow most of the rules given by the religion in certain regards.
