For all those arguing that we shouldnt "shove" islam down your throats , the reverse is also true. You are shoving liberal and antireligious arguments down our throats. Both should not happen. The moment Islam is mentioned , two cliques are formed. Both should allow the other to speak.
this is asking a lot of a community where even your choice of preferred console or game does not go unquestioned.... theological debates should not take place on a public forum, full stop.... funnily enough, this thread was NOT a theological discussion....

I m not asking alot. Just that each side be allowed to say what they beleive. This is basic education.i agree , religious debates should not be among people who have no knowledge of the subject. But i have already proved how it is a theological discussion. Islam defines clothing laws. Since the OP asked about what would we allow our wives to wear, it came into jurisdiction of islamic law. Kind of got detracted by useless fighting and swearing but its a predominantly teenage and young adult forum. Hormonal rages are expected ;-)

invitation is in the eye of the beholder no?

you see women in jeans as being inviting... i see people who keep their money at home as being inviting.... tom-ay-to tom-ah-to.... at the end we're both sticking it up to those idiots who invite us on purpose, right?
i know your trouble.
you don't want to accept that a women you does not cover up properly is inviting.
for personal reasons.

throwing wallet yourself = invitation to the world to steal it (some may try to steal it, some may try to give it back to the owner, but still the invitation exists regardless what ever happens in the end)
How is it an invitation to steal ? WHAT?
It is not an invitation to do anything. It is not your wallet, you will ignore it. It is not your Wife, you will not look at her (remember the ayat about lower your gaze and protect your modesty?).
If I keep my wallet on my desk and leave office to eat, and someone 'Steals' it..how is it not stealing ?

NO..how are you even trying to justify this.....Use a little logic yar..THINK
IF you left your car unlocked, and someone came and drove off with it..will you call him a thief or say 'it was an invitation to steal'

We have this saying in urdu, when we want to show someone how stupid they are, we sarcastically say : 'Aa Bell mujhey maar', we don't literally mean it.

women and men, both should look after their modesty..As much responsible you hold a women for wearing provocative clothes..you should hold men accountable exactly the same amount.

Lets change the scenario to Ramazan...If a person who doesn't have a roza is eating in front of you..you don't suddenly get the right to break the roza, take that treat out of his hand and start eating..
on the other hand that person should take care that he doesnt eat in front of you aswell....BOTH ARE WRONG.

Person 1: hey man! do you like dates? (the fruit, khajoor)

Person 2: nah man, just don't like that taste....

Person 3: Dates have huge importance in our religion. Our Prophet has spoken alot about how dates are good for a person. You, Person 2, are a heathen....

the above is a very small, and very crude (apologies. i just got it off the top of my head) example of things that aren't actually religious. But since Islam's spectrums are incredibly broad, there may be some overlapping. For topics like these, i only ask that people refrain from including religion, unless a topic is begging for it.

From a completely neutral point of view, i don't see any way this thread could NOT have done without the religious references. This could have been completely normal without every third person spouting his religious knowledge.

would you let your wife wear anything she wants? no? good for you, and thanks for helping the discussion along. The End. this is what this thread should have been more about

A lot of people are continuously confusing the faults of our culture with that of religion. Unless someone has been living under a rock he would have no problem in accepting that we live in a chauvinistic, misogynist, male dominated society. But implying that religion is the root cause of this attitude is over simplistic.
It's not agreed, but would you agree our religion doesn't exactly make a good case for it self either when it allows men to indulge in polygamy, but not women. How's that fair?

exactly invitation means 'Aa Bell mujhey maar'

a bullfighter shows the bull red signal to generate fury and strike at the target.
uncovered women indulges the same fury and emotions in men.

I am not that religious but who the fuck would be the father if women practiced polygamy?

Islam is at least logical.

Dynasties run from father and if women has sexual relations with 4 men , how the fuck would the baby know who is damn father is ... :)

Your point is also valid.I agree bringing religion into everything is counter-productive. This is not the way to preach. But at the same time it should not be annoying for muslims to read religous references. You yourself mentioned Islam being broad spectrum.Hence its involvement in everything should be understandable. Rather it annoys people which is unfortunate for the followers of Islam.
A better response would be
No i wont allow my wife/wives:p to wear anything against islam or anything outside the decency/modesty laws of Islam.But even such a response would have had the same result. The antireligous would ve been like "not islam again. We re tired of islam. Dont mention its name". Those of religous disposition would take it from there.

why you r thinking that others will share their thought related to their wives with you or here in public?
Very valid but people don't read simple answers they like controversy n salute to those misguided people who don't have any identity n try to misguide others as well

People should not get so emotional over here.
Rules suggested in islam are all for your betterment.
follow them to succeed. if u won't it's up to you

end of discussion from my side.
No one is getting emotional, you are just not trying to think and understand the point. I didnt wanted to quote Quran, and prove to you, first at human logical level, but I guess I have to quote it now

]
Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty:
That will make for greater purity for them:
And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty;
That they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof;
IT is the DUTY OF BOTH. Women and Men. Quran first addresses the MAN.

.....It is as much as your duty as it is hers.. It is not an invitation, it is your OBLIGATION not to slip
no matter what the women does, that is between her and her Allah...You cant stare at her, you cant touch her and you cant show your tharkiness.

END OF DISCUSSION.
