Your point is also valid.I agree bringing religion into everything is counter-productive. This is not the way to preach. But at the same time it should not be annoying for muslims to read religous references. You yourself mentioned Islam being broad spectrum.Hence its involvement in everything should be understandable. Rather it annoys people which is unfortunate for the followers of Islam.

No i wont allow my wife/wives to wear anything against islam or anything outside the decency/modesty laws of Islam.But even such a response would have had the same result. The antireligous would ve been like "not islam again. We re tired of islam. Dont mention its name". Those of religous disposition would take it from there.

Ask a common 'mullah' about polygamy and he will tell you to go for it and have a good time. Ask a proper religious scholar and he will tell you about the conditions under which it is allowed and the obligations it will create for you. The unfortunate point is that these superficial views always prevail instead of the more enlightened interpretations due to the economic and social backwardness of our society.

Having said that my main point is that if a person does not subscribe to a religious worldview that is perfectly acceptable. But then the validity or applicability of another person's religion shouldn't bother him. Live and let live.

Try to weigh things on ur own moral grounds n knowledge n decide what things r okay for you (in particular) n which are not n live ur life accordingly
Religion is a guideline u have all liberty either to follow them or not
One who is following those guidelines strictly will try to send u to hell on it every step n one who is not following them will have no objection to ur actions
Since ur a married man n grownup n able to take decisions of much more complexity so decide yourself
Many atheists have more sense of privacy than many religious people its a human instinct

As i said i totally agree. Shoving islam in everyones face is counter-productive , as proven in your case. The Lord says preach with tact and a sweet/persuasive/non-condemning tone. Most of the preachers slept through that class.
Give people glad tidings for the good they do and warn them from doing evil. Majority of preachers skip the glad tidings part. Its all doom and gloom. This is totally wrong.
Though music is haram if we consider Islamic law. The punishment described is authentic based in Hadith.
But to just flat out tell someone they are going to hell is not the way to preach. Every real learned scholar i ve heard/ read/seen uses a polite tone and a way of acheiving common ground then delivering the islamic point of view . i would urge you not to listen to what your heart says alone. But study Islam yourself. Read authentic Islamic texts. You will learn to love the religion . I ve read both Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim (the two most authentic texts on Hadith) as well as tranlation/interpretations of the Quran. i found them immensly simple in their meaning and fulfilling. Yes , there are things which Islam prohibits. We must obey those laws for our own good . Even in worldly matters, why do you obey laws? Why not listen to your heart and for example slam your car into a motorcyclist blocking your way on the road? Why? Because its wrong and unlawful. Islamic laws are the same , their reasoning both logical and in the interest of the follower , if you study them.
As i said earlier my posts were merely conveying what Islam says on the issue. I m not forcing anyone to anything. You may draw your own conclusions.
