Which Processor to buy?

The current specs of my system are:

1. Intel G630
2. DH61HO
3. Gigabyte GTX 780 OC
4. 4GB X 2 1600MHz

I know G630 and GTX 780 don't fit together. But still I play Fallout 4 on medium graphics at 25~35fps. Now I wanted to know that whether adding an i5 2500 or i5 2400 will improve the FPS significantly? Or should I save more and get an i7 2600 or any other new generation pro?

Yes it will improve fps but if you can get 2600 that is even better.

Am also on the same boat. Try to get the processor with fastest stock speeds since you cannot overclock that motherboard. I think i7 2600 would be better.
You should also consider a 4th gen i5

Again. If you are not overclocking it would be a waste.
If you really want to overclock you'd have to change the mobo aswell. I heard 2500k is a good overclocker.
Also 920 is so old it will lose its value in a few months. More cores dont always mean more performance. Specially when it comes between i5-i7. For gaming it depends on which one has higher clocks.

if u get one it will be ur best deal...
2nd gen is also old now..
time to shif to the new chip.....
cant afford 6th gen..
minimum 4th gen is ur deal...

Sell your current Mobo and Proc, and get an i5 4440/4460 with a simple H81 motherboard. You'll have to spend near 10-12k on top.
You can also skip changing the mobo, and get a 3rd gen i5 3470 or 3570 proc only. Just make sure you update the BIOS before using the new CPU.

skip mobo change and get i7 3770/K. The newer games will take advantage of the i7. Fallout 4 and witcher 3 are some good examples.

Forget about getting a new mobo with that budget. Your best option is to get the i5 2500 and you will have a pretty good gaming PC.

I was taking into consideration only new prices. But sure a used 2600 would be great. But why do you need a new mobo if you aren't getting a "k" CPU?

Current mobo DH61HO doesn't support 2400, 2500 or 2600. It only supports the S version of these

So if you are going to change your motherboard then you really need to rethink this whole thing. At least get an unlocked CPU so you can over clock the hell out of it. A 2500k is better than a 2600 when combined with the right motherboard and CPU cooler.

I second this.

I also have a 2400S cpu. Actually i didnt know before that S cpus exist or have significantly less clock speed.

Actually 2500k competes with many newer processors even after overclocking.
Now i dont have much options left for me. If i were you i'd rather buy a 2500k + OCable motherboard(my mobo is Asus but its h61 so i cant overclock even 1% lol) + any good cpu cooler you are good to go. 2500k are great overclockers.

Yes and you don't need to buy a CPU cooler immediately if you won't be able to adjust it in your budget. You can always buy one later on.

Get an i7 3700, its better than i7 2600 and it also fits your budget.
