Wateen Cable Broadband performance

I am in Lahore tehse days and my cousine here has Wateen Cable "not Wi-Max" i was surprised at how fast my downloads were since i expected the perormance to be slow...

i did a speedtest and here is the result... just posting thise for information of the Lahoree Pakgamer users who have access to Wateen cable.. dont think the cable services are available in other cities but you can confirm it yourself if u are interested.

its a 256k circuit.. hope helps...

decent ping times. the thing is that they're apparently targeting areas with 10 marla house as you can get twice as many connection as you can per foot of cable, if you know what i mean. i'm in model town extension and they don't have it here yet. i've been using the wimax. it was really good the first two months but i think the network's choking now. besides i've noticed it comes to a hault after it rains.

i'd love to know what kinda ping times it gives for servers in new york, for example. i mean even i get these astronomical figures when i use the default lahore server to test my account. but i really want to know about ping times and upload speeds though.

i asked the wateen people, and they say they cap the upload speeds to 30% of the download limits. which is pretty sucky if you ask me. it means you need a 756kb (or however much it is) connection to get a decent 256kb upload speed.

These speedtest sites can exactly measures your bandwidth.I have Micronet Broadband 512kb and they give a diagnostic tool of modem to check exactly my current bandwidth. HEHE!

sorry wrong post, these sites cant measure

Someone asked for NY pings - surprising that they are actually getting more international bandwidth. i think its a shared circuit probably.

they are living in defence... so the average size of houses here is 500sq feet to 2,000 sq. feet.

they are paying 1000 bucks for Tripple Play services.

Service pakage includes:

internet
TV
and telephone services

Downloading laptop Graphic drivers at 28.7 k avge speed 50% done

All Broadband companies cap upload to 30% for security reasons. You can get higher capacity by asking for it if you are going for a dedicated service.

Wateen upgraded to Transworld Babndwidth 3 months ago - i wonder if your experience is older than that.

From what i have been hearing, Wateen has really been focusing on quality of services and improvement. your experience could be from before when they had a million freeby customers connected at lower shared bandwidth.

Internet issues concurrent with rain are a telltale sign of wiring problems. I had the exact same problem, and I have friends who've had the exact same problem. Most probably theres a joint somewhere in your wiring, which gets exposed to water during rain, which then mauls your internet efficiency. Have a lineman look your wiring over, and have him make new joints where you have existing ones.

As for the "capping" of uploads, the name of the service should give it away: ADSL. The A stands for asynchronous, implying that the download and upload speeds are NOT the same. The download/upload ratio PTCL gives us (or other ADSL providers in Pakistan for that matter) are pretty standard values for packages of similar bandwidth the world over. It has something to do with the technology of ADSL itself, I'm not quite sure. You could try requesting an increased upload rate, but its possible the extra charges might discourage you.

@about rain:

well, i've got wimax. not a lotta wiring involved there. i don't know too much about this stuff, but i was thinking the general disturbance in the air (?) when it rains probably messes with the signals? like when there was terrestrial television and it used to suck when it rained?

and i'm actually using wateen wimax these days. day before, i was playing cod4 and was super-smooth, i could've kissed mr. wateen himself! but today, i couldn't connect to any games at all. really erratic service i think.

btw; speedtest from about 3 seconds ago for new york:
d: 429k
u: 250k
ping: 427 ms

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.

did you try setting up Google Payments? For UBL you may have to get it enabled for internet transactions, Naya should work without it!

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!
