i have proof for this too ... when i was running my 275 my pc used to restart on my ups if i was gaming .... but it didnt when i was gaming on the 5850 .. so that is actual proof that the 5850 consumes a lot less power ...

congrats on the new card ... it surely is a monstor .... but truly speaking ... putting benchmarks aside .. i dnt see any diff in real life game play b/w this and the 275 unless its a dx 11 game .. u get to see 10% better graphics over a dx 9 game

Yea actually it doesn't matter which card u have, as long as u can enjoy gaming at smooth frame rates.

well for better understanding ill post this!!!
if u see it 5800 r amazingly fast n powerful but at the same time very less power hungry!!!
in idle it is consuming power lesser than even 9600gt ... on average it is consuming less tan 4850 but when it comes to maximum it is quite intresting ...almost twice as powerful as 260gtx it is consuming even less than that (but once u overclock it that will be a concern for some)


also not many here wud be using blueray on cx400 or even cm 500 watts with 5850!

but we must keep in mind ... how techpowerup conducted these tests! they have not included any gaming load on gpu!!! so maximum value can be objectionable!

The four result values are as following:

  • Idle: Windows Vista Aero sitting at the desktop (1280x1024 32-bit) all windows closed, drivers installed. Card left to warm up in idle until power draw is stable.
  • Average: 3DMark03 Nature at 1280x1024, 6xAA, 16xAF. This results in the highest power consumption. Average of all readings (12 per second) while the test was rendering (no title screen).
  • Peak: 3DMark03 Nature at 1280x1024, 6xAA, 16xAF. Highest single reading during the test.
  • Maximum: Furmark Stability Test at 1280x1024, 0xAA. This results in a very high non-game power consumption that can typically be reached only with stress testing applications. Card left running stress test until power draw converged to a stable value.
  • Blu-Ray Playback: Power DVD 9 Ultra is used at a resolution of 1920x1200 to play back the Batman: The Dark Knight disc with GPU acceleration turned on. Playback starts around timecode 1:19 which has the highest data rates on the BD with up to 40 Mb/s. Playback left running until power draw converged to a stable value.

very very nice scores - there , even though u dont have i7 ur scores beat all other benchmark scores

excellent very nice - kindly explain how u did this , volt modes , etc , what setings u used so that other members can also benefit from it .

Yea, it's definitely quite a surprise :p, didn't expect my E7400 to keep up with the 5850 :D
Thanks once again, well i'll be more than glad to help any 5850 user, who's looking to OC his GPU.

I would certainly like to know
but currently i am stasified with my oc of 875/1120 on stock voltage..if i go above it..ire crashes.but increases voltage will take care of it
plus dun know why but i cant run unigine benchmark in fullscreen with 1440*900 even though my lcd supports 1920*1080

well yea u will certainly have to up the voltage if u wanna OC further. Use MSI after Burner to adjust the Voltage + Fan speed & the AMD gpu tool to set the clock speeds. When u wanna OC just bump me in my vistor page :p i'll guide on u from there :D

Btw what kind of error are u getting while using the full screen option at 1400*900?
