Hi Guys,

I am sure most of you who use Facebook know by now that many people are planning to deactivate their accounts or to not use Facebook on 20th May (or a couple more days) as a protest. The reason is that Facebook is not removing some Islam-hate groups/events and pages - specially the new event "Everybody draw Muhammad(SAW) day".

I would like to know your opinions about this protest. To be honest, I think it is a half hearted move. I think that Facebook wouldn't care less if it's a 1 day thing even if all the Muslims participated in it. I think it's kind of a way of saying "I don't like what is going to happen on 20th May so I won't use Facebook for a couple of days but I am addicted to it so I'll start using it from the next day"

If anything, the only thing that COULD affect the Facebook was if everybody withdrew from it permanently and shifted to a different social networking website. Because right now, the Facebook staff knows that at most it's only going to be a small scratch on their money.

Please note that I don't think this protest is a bad thing. I think it's good to know that people are bothered by it but what I am saying is that the way the protest is being done is useless. I know it might sound a bit harsh or stupid but feel free to comment/criticize/curse etc...

Yeah you are totally right mate. If FB are not stopping a religious war, then lets see how they will crumble if all the Muslims permanently switch social networking sites.

And mods, no need to throw this thread in the trashbin because this thread is not breaking any PG rules as it says, that only those threads are not allowed in which we "discuss on a religious matter because its sensitive issue".

Couldn't agree with you more..I was thinking the same thing..In fact the groups are just fuelling the mockery ..They want us pissed off and reactive. I think the best way IS to just leave facebook by deactivating our accounts.

I am up for it... I had this discussion on other websites and blogs.People say that Muslims should be immune towards the insults and slurs about their religious icons. But how immune can someone be if i insult their dad,mom or other beloved ones? Since our religious icons are very respectable for us,we have every right to show our disgust and nothing wrong with that.
The non beleivers and non muslims, specially those who have no respect and care for other people's feelings can say what they want about our religious icons, and we can protest against their disrespect the way we want, although it should be peaceful and non aggressive.
I will de activate my facebook account on 20th and keep it like that at least for a month. That is the least i can do to make an statement about my disgust. But yes i am not the Almighty, and i have limites...I will show that i am not with them,by deactivating my facebook account.May the one who is the Almighty deal with them.

Yup they are non beleivers...and we are beleivers..so we should show them that we DO respect our religious icons, and that by making mockery of someone so important to us they are insulting us all.
Its the same as someone insulting my dad.Although my dad is not his dad,but still someone else has no right to insult my dad in front of me,and if they do that i wont be happy, and will show signs of disgust, and thats a natural behaviour, not over reacting.

No this is not "over reacting". If a Muslim sees wrong, it is his/her duty to stop it with his/her hands. If he/she can't stop it with hands, then he/she should stop it with his/her hands and if even that is not possible, then at least he/she should believe it in the heart that it's wrong (which is the lowest level of faith).

So I think this is just a reaction and not an over reaction.

Plus if someone did such a thing to my mom or dad, I'd do the same thing. And as a muslim, I am supposed to love Prophet Muhammad (SAW) more than my own parents. So I am just being honest to myself and to Allah when I say "I love Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) more than my own parents"

I'd just like to add my two cents right now.

I was working on that group and through my own methods (Advocating what Islam truly is), I was able to convince a couple hundred people to not depict the Prophet (P.B.U.H) too crudely. Instead, out of respect for what I was doing, they decided to destroy their pictures and talk to me about Islam. Many of the people who came to me on that page were Atheist (they don't believe in My God but want to find their own way to God) and they were one of the most reasonable people I've ever talked to.

There loads of misconceptions about Islam right now

The ones i found most hurtful were:

1. We apparently have orgies in heaven (yes, I felt extremely disgusted at that question and yes I answered it correctly)
2. We would listen to sciences that come from the Quran which were is very cutting Edge. WHEN THE QURAN WAS REVEALED. Many people felt we were ignorant to modern science apparently.
3. Honour Killings is a part of Islam. It's a cultural phenomenon. It's widely happened in Islamic Countries so people would rather attribute it to Islam than man.
4 The Houri are sex toys. The Houris are personification of a person's good deeds and are not sex toys. They would be there for all eternity to remind people how good deeds always remain young and eternal. The Houri would be personified for both genders so it's not a guy only thing. The terms used to describe Houri were "feminine" because when Islam was being spread at the time, the Arab Society was Patriarchal (men-orientated) so describing the Houri like that was considered okay.

The shit really hit the fan when this person started posting anti-jew jokes and holocaust humor. All of this was extremely horrible to come across because the person was a muslim.. This happened two nights ago around 3 am. After that it was a retaliation. Honestly, one person was going about saying "By the grace of Allah, I'm going to ass-rape everyone here". When did Allah provide muslims permission to rape people?

did you try setting up Google Payments? For UBL you may have to get it enabled for internet transactions, Naya should work without it!
