I recently upgraded from 4mbps to 10mbps dsl and I'm having some issues. I'm getting only up to 8mbps and when downloading something the speed fluctuates a lot. It is like it hits 8mbps then slows down to 5 or 6mbps for a second then goes back up. Nothing like this happened when I had 4mbps or even 8mbps in the past. My SNR is 12.4, attenuation is 28.6 and modem is syncing at 11262 downstream. I registered a complaint twice to no avail. Even went to the exchange and they just bulshitted about how my line doesn't support anything over 4mbps when I have a perfectly stable connection with good stats. I am at a loss here. Did anyone here have a similar issue and can help me with this?

I'll go and talk to the exchange people about it. Adsl2+ is stable enough but I'd really like the additional upload speed of Vdsl2.

i dont think you need to go to exchange for this, you just have to request online or at their helpline,

btw are you on fiber or copper? and how the hell they fixed your problem without visiting you ?

I'm on copper. They usually have two limiters for broadband, one is sync speed of the modem and the other is max speed allowed on any given line through their network software. They increased my sync speed but did not remove the 8mbps cap therefore whenever my connection went a little above 8mbps it throttled to 5 or 6mbps like it hit a brick wall. This has happened to me when I upgraded from 1 to 2mbps, then again from 2 to 4mbps, then again from 4 to 8mbps. It takes a lot of calls and exchange visits to fix because the idiots at 1218 always say that you're supposed to only get 60% of your package speed and then I have to tell them that I paid for full therefore I should be getting full speed and anything less is fraudulent advertising and I will report them to secp. It takes many many calls and online complaints to get fixed. This time it took 4 days.

wow it is alot of hassle, and i wish it doesn't happen with everyone else,
but good news is that you are able to use 10 mb on copper,

I'm yet to receive my first bill on 10mbps, but the representative on 1218 told me the total bill would be around 3300 with taxes and all.

3300 for 10 mb is still too much, dont you have fiberlink around ?

And what does the sync speed limiter do?

Bloody people(PTCL) asking me pkr 4000 for vdsl number. According to them only specific numbers will work with vdsl. As soon as transworld comes to my phase I am going to discard this carp.

No, I don't have any fiber connections in my area, which is why I'm stuck with PTCL.

And what does the sync speed limiter do?

Sync speed limiter is the max speed your modem can sync to. So in case of a 6mbps connection it would be 6144 downstream. If the network limiter is placed on your connection at say 4mbps, then it doesn't matter if your modem syncs to 6 or 8mbps you will get only 4mbps. Network limiter is worse because it introduces a lot of lag and fluctuations in the connection. If your modem syncs higher then the network limiter your connection will hit the software limit and bounce back and forth. If your connection is limited by sync speed only then you will get your full speed consistently without fluctuation.

Also because their network software makes 512kbps provision for IPTV, your sync speed should always be your broadband + IPTV provision e.g. 4mbps connection would get 4096+512=4608 downstream sync on modem. This would allow you to get full 4mbps on your internet devices, otherwise it would only be around 3.5mbps. Also, for connections 10mbps and above, the provision is actually 1024kbps for IPTV.

If its GPON/FTTH, then it will be for 4000.

someone else told me he was facing same issue sync at higher rate while getting half upload speed i think it was for testing purpose

You are right about 500 for conversion. But I have heard from PTCL official staff that I have to contact my local exchange to get VDSL. After contacting the exchange I was told to get a new number as VDSL is only available for specific numbers( Bloody People). For new number the charges are PKR 4000. I am in talks with my lineman, to see if there is any work around.

when i asked that lines are now new SO i should be able to use 10mbps here, they replied nahi aap abhi 2mbps use karen Q k lines abhi bilkul new hain aap ziada load mat daalen is pe

increasing speed is not problem anymore call helpline and they will increase your speed in minutes
